Actually something is wrong with your MTL file. You should see as many 'newmtl' records as textures. I did a quick test and for me it works fine:

newmtl wire_214229166
Ns 32
d 1
Tr 0
Tf 1 1 1
illum 2
Ka 0.839216 0.898039 0.650980
Kd 0.839216 0.898039 0.650980
Ks 0.350000 0.350000 0.350000

newmtl wire_008008136
Ns 32
d 1
Tr 0
Tf 1 1 1
illum 2
Ka 0.031373 0.031373 0.533333
Kd 0.031373 0.031373 0.533333
Ks 0.350000 0.350000 0.350000

That's exactly what I mean. You should get same number of MTL as textures but I always get one MTL.

Don't know what's wrong with export setup. Can you screen you MAX to OBJ setup if possible?Thank
