Great stuff on the live DB sighman - well done!

To me that was an important fix because in so many ways the Carrara interface is superior to DAZ but until this point we were lacking this time saving facility. I was having to guess at the look of the shader but now I can see it. :)

Kudos.

Awesome, will load and test. thanks for update.

UPDATE: Not loving the long Carrara start time but I don't think its Plugin related, I also did an update of ZoneAlarm and both Studio and Carrara takes about 5min to start. Its crazy.

Having a bit of an issue, however discovered an error during investigation.
Once OC is installed, if you try to modify installation using the setup function there are no options in the modify option, therefore there is no easy way to test with different version of Carrara without manually copying the files.
OCarrara install screen
OCarrara install screen
OCarrara modify screen
OCarrara modify screen

If you want to install a previous version you need to uninstall the current version. If you want to restore the currently installed version use repair, not modify.

Correct, however modify is showing blank. This was more to bring it to your attention than to complain.
So to test OC in a different version like public beta I would have to uninstall from non-beta ? just curious

There are no options in the installer. I don't even know why it has a modify dialog. I'll see if I can remove it. As far as versions are concerned there is no difference between a test/stable/release version. It is simply based on the version number. You can upgrade from a lower version or repair the current version. But to downgrade you must uninstall first. It is no more complicated than that.

Edit: If you are talking about different versions of Carrara then that is different. You can only install to one version of Carrara. You then need to copy the Plugin files to other versions of Carrara. Pick one as your primary for the installer and then copy the files for other versions.

So what happens if we have network (hardware/software/ISP) issues, how will we be able to use the LiveDB if you have to have a working connection, I see you say we can download, add a material from the LDB and then drag the shader to the Carrara browser, but again if the network connection isn't working wouldn't that cause us issues?

Well, it is called LiveDB for a reason. Once you have loaded a LiveDB shader into Carrara it is no longer live. If you save it you can reload it without LiveDB at any time. This is the way all the other Plugin's handle Live DB including the standalone.

So we will have to dowload and apply them one by one to a shader and save them on the off chance something may go wrong? I fail to see what was so bad about the old way the LiveDB worked, could you not add the option back in to download the shaders, that way should we have network issues then at least we have the shaders and could work offline until the network issues are resolved?

We wouldnt have the most up to date and LIVE versions of the shaders but we would have a version and could carry on with making an image or animation.

Or perhaps a link on the site that is updated once a month say, so we could grab them from there, again not the most up to date, but would solve the no net issue
