Hi guys, I tried Rivatuner but I failed trying to find the monitoring feature, if someone can guide me on this setup I'd appreciate... anyhow, this will only tell me when the render stopped but will it tell me why?
Again, I'd like confirmation on people who successfully renders overnight if they use a GPU only for rendering while a second GPU is for display. thanks

Sorry Proupin, I've been busy lately. I can confirm that I have no problem whatsoever leaving it overnight, in fact several days, but only once was an animation. I usually do batch renders of 10 or 12 shots and I've had it as long as 3 days running with no crash. (it didnt crash at the 3rd, it just finished it's job and I gave it some rest

)
Could be overheating, in my case I bought an extra fan for the box when I bought the 470, also it has a nice 250mm side fan that gets some flow in, here in Madrid is pretty hot, either outside in summer, or inside in winter (cause we crank the thermostat way up

), and I get some extra grades from my rig, but so far so good.
Besides the usual suspects, aka GPUs it could also be your PSU overheating due to the excess of load it kind of depends on the quality of it.
Good luck and if I can help somehow let me know.

I haven't had a problem with overnight renders, though sometimes they aren't finished when I wake up! ( 4096 samples x 300+ frames )
I use 2 GTX 470's both rendering, none reserved for display.
Though I do get a little paranoid about the heat.
Checking a hardware monitor it seems my GPU is pushing 90 C ( almost 200F! ) temperatures, I worry I'll wake up to a fire in my computer room!

90º is the standard work temp for the 470 with full load, I really don't know why I have an oven when I could use my rig to roast some chickens...

My GTX480 worked for about 5 hours at 93 C with no problem but I won't let it for all the night, never know
I also consider to use it for cooking

I personnally use EVGA Precision 2.0 (a more recent version has been released recently) with my two ASUS ENGTX480. The ASUS SmartDoctor provided with ASUS cards is bugged and doesn't work with Win7.
With Standard SmartCooling curve settings, I get 83 degrees max in my cubix in a room at 24°C.

I also use Speedfan which gives the maximum temp for all chips in your system. You just hover your mouse over the temp for the GPU and it'll show the max temp.

What's up... I set up a screenshot utility to monitor what's going on... To my surprise, as soon as the windows screensaver kicks in, Octane shuts down intantaneously

soooo... until I do more tests, RS team could try to confirm this as a bug hopefully if it can be reproduced. Note I'm on xp 32bits

Maybe try disabling your screensaver.
If you are rendering a frame, a dropped connection won't stop your render, it will keep rendering without an octanelive connection and will allow you to save the image in the morning.
I'd try disabling your screensaver, and downclocking your GPU 10% to check if it's a heat issue.
