FSPE makes Octane nodes work for me; I can change the DOF and any other property tied to a null or object and the updates are visible in IPR. It must be something else throwing a wrench into the equation then.
I'd also check your master plugins list and any other factors that could interfere with viewport updating. The last thing to rule out is if the issue is specific to the version of Octane (or Lightwave?) being used.

Ryan, don't worry Juan knows what setup I'm talkign about and it's not workign with your recommnedations in Octane (wihtout reload button) so I'm sure Juan will find way.
My setup includes DOF and Aperture linked onto single null so i can use distance for target focusing and rotation for amount fo blurrynes.

I was wondering, is there a chance we can get a lock button feature similar to whats seen in the standalone and 3ds MAX versions for the IPR? I tend to run large interior scenes that require quite abit of time to render for tests or otherwise. I've run into the problem of the IPR reseting itself whenever I mistakenly click on something. If it wouldn't be too hard to implement that would be a awesome safety feature that would me a great deal of time (I can't name how many times I've run into this problem when I need to get a test render to a client or was working in modeler and switched back to scene only to have the test render I was working on crash on me.)
Also, would it be possible to implement a increase/decrease zoom feature also seen in both standalone/3ds MAX?

With or without having to framestep? Works for me but I need to framestep
Lewis.. why not just use DOF preview in open GL, it's mighty quick and your null control would have no problem here. Set it up how you like in openGL then refresh IPR. Actually if you have a render heavy scene, openGL Dof previewing is much much faster

Hmm, weird.
Must be different DOF setup then.
Here is my setup.
1. DOF null and Camera are connected to Focal Lenght so when i move null I determine where focus should be (distance).
2. DOF null is connected to aperture through vector/scalar nodes so when i rotate null on "H" channel i get more or less blur like "DOF amount"
what setup are you using ?

Me or Ryan?
So DOF tweaking in OpenGL not working for you?

Both of you, or anyone for that matter

.
I'm not speaking about OGL DOF (i know about that but it's too slow for scene with lot of instances and since i need instances to be bounding box it's rarely useful for my scenes anyway). I need IPR DOF in Octane and this setup doesn't work without reload button hit.
thanks

Reload or Redraw..
Redraw not so bad but Reload would be a pain

Sorry Redraw not Reload (that would be very bad yes

).
Still even with redraw it's pain when tweaking IPR/DOF so I'm curious to see your setup whit FSPE on that redraws automatically at IPR 'coz mine isn't.
cheers

FSPE doesn't seem to have any effect on my system, but this is how I setup DOF. Functionally ours both seem to work the same (requiring an IPR redraw) however if you ever need to render out a pass in LW this is the way to go.

honestly I don't see a problem hitting 'alt-r' (or frameshift left right) after a DOF tweak to see it update. Takes a fraction of a second and now I do it without looking at the keyboard
