Could we at least have the switch/button that would allow us just export the scene? Much like the Sketchup exporter.
Also I have the hunch. Are you saying that the exporting is happening at the plugin start?
Couldn't the plugin just read the list of materials first and continue exporting while I adjust materials, view, etc?

I copied Paul's quote below.
face_off wrote: For maximum speed, and minimum load times, the plugin takes the ArchiCAD geometry from ArchiCAD and loads it directory into Octane. It doesn't go via OBJ or OCS (these would take much more time)....

It seems the plugin is not exporting but loaded directly, so to me it seems it is not able to make a button for export while the facility to write to OCS (OBJ) is not available yet.

So I guess we have to be patient untill Otoy is ready working on the facility to write to OCS.

@Cyb,
If you really need to work in the standalone (maybe to add external objects using OBJ's) while this facility is not ready yet,
you better export to obj before tweaking materials in the plugin not to waste time.
But if you tewaked already I think you can export material fromoput the plugin and re-import it in the standalone.. not too much of a hazzle if you don't have tweaked 100 materials :)
You standard can save to OBJ fromout archicad.

Everyone customer requests "export to OCS", but in practice it will be challenging to work with. A scene with 100 materials will have > 1000 Octane nodes, and they will look like spaghetti in Octane Standalone. I don't know how you would select a particular material and make a change, because finding that node will be too hard. However, yes, Otoy have said they are looking at this functionality.

IMO a better solution is to enhance the ArchiCAD plugin so you never need to use Octane Standalone, since managing materials and geometry in the plugin is way easier than it would be in Standalone.

It's not about material edit-ability. It's about ability to join multiple models from multiple other pieces of software.

May I suggest you put forward your need for this functionality to Otoy, since they will need to enhance the Octane API in order for this to be able to be added to the ArchiCAD plugin, and as more people that ask for it, hopefully the priority of the enhancement increases.
