Witpapier wrote:For all you Noobies :) All this sss skin material presets and so on ... Ive been at work with it for quite a few months now.. Ive uploaded pics to show my node structure, but to save you all the trouble I will share my complete body .POC files that you just import to V4 and from there you can fine tune to your liking. I use Drop Box https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ry8qa0c79aylsld/LpUplu5e93 :) :) :)
I feel like a doofus. I saved it out for one node and just applied it manually to every node each time. It didn't cross my mind to save the whole V4... doh!

I decided to share my .POC files, that way all the hard work is done, You right click on Victoria go to import all materials for this figure/prop, then select the option retain all existing image maps. Then load one of the files. what i usually do then is play with the eye surface and the lips. you will see the lips is a glossy and specular material mix. By playing with the specular you get some nice realistic effect. The "100 selected RED med Spec sss perfect with REDZ sss more colour" file, I applied the maximum amount of sss to the feet, face, head, nipples, and hands to give a more realistic look under certain circumstances. the file "Selected extra sss RED med Spec sss perfect with REDZ sss more colour. is also a fine tune on these areas but with less sss.

In octane, the darker the skin the more the sss shows, which can cause too much red at eye lids and so on. thats where the fun starts. to get it perfect for each render.

@Paul. Thank you for the replies. About the Cuda error, I forgot to mention that after the error windows closes another opens that says the figure Genesis caused the problem. I'll post the error message from the cuda.log next time this happens. The plugin causes Poser to crash sometimes but I haven't been able to pinpoint why it is. I'm not too bothered about it as I know the plugin is still in beta. I'll let you know if I find out what causes the crashing.

I'm gonna try to install my old card although I might not have space as the new card takes two PCI slots. I managed to get some extra render boost by overclocking the card. I have a Power Edition GTX 660 and it comes with a good app for overclocking so I can do it pretty safely. It makes a difference.

I'm doing tests with skin and I've been reading about using subdermal, epidermal and diffuse maps for SSS. Have you looked into this? Here's one article I've been looking at regarding this:

http://bensimonds.com/2010/05/31/three- ... mystified/

Is there a plan of having material groups in upcoming updates? It would be good to be able to have all the skin materials, for example, in one group so you could adjust specularity, SSS etc. from one place.

I just got the cuda error but this time with no Genesis in the scene. This time another figure (classroom) was blamed for the problem. Here's the message from the cuda.log:
CUDA device 0: Failed to bind device to thread, since it's already bound
CUDA error 201 on device 0: The specified context is not bound to the current thread or context and API call have different version.
-> Could not get memory info
