If we send the team a shipment of sedatives, 100 barrels of wine, beer and whiskey, a trip to a Turkish bath house, hourly foot rub downs, paint their rooms a dull blue, and play only the most chill music for them (not too loud mind you), then the development will speed up at least 3X if my calculations are correct.

However if we keep harping on this topic until 2.3, then we will be in a nursing home by the time we use it.

I have a bottle of wine I can donate, but I will not touch feet- sorry. :o

Before only the feet rubbing is left (which I would rather avoid) I donate 2 barrels of beer and a bottle of wine. Don“t know where to get sedatives, sorry. ;)

I feel that people should just chillax a little bit... because I see two points here :

- If you are just a hobbyist, well, needing an internet connection doesn't change anything to the game for you. It's not like the software collects info and send it overseas right ? My guess is that it will be an ID check with a watermark on the software per purchase, so that means what ? roughly a bunch of Ko's for the check ? even if you have a GPRS connection you won't see the difference. You got your licence online anyway so you DO have an internet connection. We also know that even if it works, Octane works best on a workstation, not on a laptop.

- If you are pro, and work on a big structure, probably the Refractive Team will have alternatives to propose to them. Anyway, having to check an ID online doesn't require to give the artist access to HTTP or whatever, it's just a check on using protocol and port, the IT guys only need to open that port and thats it.

Everyone is getting all mixed up when it's not a big deal, most of you are I suppose on Facebook, you should be more concerned of them having all your private information on the palm of their hands. This kind of posts won't help the Refractive team to get to product out. It's a young company, and the first years are critical. User feedback is truly important, but remember to always make your comments with respect and also being cautious, you are talking about something you still haven't tried. We can't use right now Octane in production in our company since it's too young and it's still lacking features (I'm the one testing it on my own), but we are looking very closely and expecting they will put it out right, and the online thing doesn't bother AT ALL.

Just my 2 cents, people who really use the software don't waste it's time complaining, they just use the tool for what it does.

I have no problem with this since I'm online all the time.

However, in the office I'm behind a firewall that I have control over so I hope it's not going to communicate on any mysterious ports.

holocube :

Normally you use a custom port, just ask the IT department to open it for you, anyway if they bought the license, they are willing to use it, for the same reasons then open the port on the firewall ;-)

Now this is probably great news for all you paranoids.
A secure connection, very good Radiance (HTTPS isn't cheap for you, but I hope you didn't/don't pay to much), thanks for taking care of that!

For everyone who doesn't know what HTTPS is, sneak a peek:
