Lol, Elvis... :)

I agree with PolderAnimation; the criticism would depend on what this render is really about. The archviz is there just as a "prop" == unimportant. So what remains is the woman, which isn't very attractive to me (uncanny valley + looks like a piggy with makeup (my personal taste, not render criticism)). Maybe do something with lighting (which is flat), to expose more the body curves and at the same time hide other, hm, imperfections...

I would just suggest you to try if you can smooth the skin a little more & a better lighting. It looks somewhat flat & you can't really see the curves like Matej said. I agree with him.
Try to set some specular on the skin to some blue/light blue as it's the color of the veins as it is the most visible color on our skin when exposed to light. Also some SSS would be nice to get that smooth/life-like feel of your skin.

And please try to make her fit on the environment, she looks out of it actually ^^
It would look so much better with a proper implementation of the woman inside her environment.

Hope you enjoy Octane as much as we do for your first results anyway!

Keep up the good work,
Cheers.

One thing to keep in mind is that even though Elvis could learn to be a little more polite.... learn to treat comments like that with great appreciation.

We get so close to our artwork... and the more time we spend on it and the more "we" like it... the "better" it becomes in our mind... when in actual fact it needs a lot of work.

My best critic is my wife. She can look at something I have spent days on and say... "wow the skin really sucks, why does it look so flat?" and I won't be offended and will realize it really does suck. An honest critic is a godsend!! When you are starting out. It may piss you off but if it inspires you to dig down, start over and try again it is worth its weight on gold... you will improve in spite of the dicks that have nothing better to say than criticize without offering ideas to help.

Having said that... Elvis... if you ever say something compassionate and actually constructive in your critiques I'd probably keel over and die : > ) For you this applies....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGt9jAkWie4

Achieving realistic skin is a real challenge so do not get too discouraged. This is strong for a first try. You will be surprised what a good camera angle and low lighting can do in a case like this. It hides a multitude of sins and often turns what can be seen as a sexist image into an artistic one. It will not fix bad textures but it may give you a look and feel that saves you redoing what you have done from scratch and you can move on to teh next bigger and better effort. Keep it up

the skin need a lot more work, get rid of the stretch marks around her hips - not a good look. Also as elvis pointed out - the texture and shading along her legs makes it appear as if she has hairy legs - not a good look either.

the hair is too yellow - it looks like a bad dye job atm.

The pose is a bit off - need a bit more elegance.

I think this is a great opportunity to make improvements and feed on the criticism so you can really show your skill with updated images.

Don't take Elvis harsh critique too serious. It is just his unique way to give feedback.
If you want to communicate respect and beauty of women with your image than you should rethink the pose, background and styling of the character. If you ask 10 women, how many will answer that this piece is communicating respect for women?
We are mainly male folks here in the forum, so you should go out and ask on the street ;)
The skin could be improved but it is not too bad. I would first invest more time in other things. The hair is sticky and not falling down like she used tons of hair spray. Using some cloth or clothes will create more interest and respect.
Change the pose and tune up the background and work on the make up.

Doing people is the hardest thing in 3D CG. I dread it, to be sincere... In 95% of cases it will fall in the "uncanny valley" thing and you'll have to compensate with other tricks to make your render more attractive / pleasant to look at. imo there are only two ways to do it: either you go the obvious cartoony look or the super realistic look. Everything in between will look at least a bit strange or outright wrong.

Here's a f#$&%!! awesome female render I like very much, to illustrate a few things: CLICK
Even though it's obvious CG, she is attractive to look at, because:

1.) Absolutely flawless technical execution (superb modeling, superb texturing, realistic materials, very detailed, very clean render)
2.) Great lighting that better emphasizes her body form
3.) Interesting background that feels right and doesn't stick out

and last, but very important:

4.) She has character. She's really pissed off and obviously not someone you would mess with in RL. :) That makes her appealing and attractive. Her face expression, posture & the feeling she shows add to realism and compensate for the "uncanny valley" thing.

OTOH, the girl in your render doesn't have any character and just sits there looking dumb. Probably wouldn't even know how to make a sammich... (sorry for adding gasoline to the fire, but sincerity is the best truth. :D )

PS
(there's also a 5th point: 5.) I like dark haired girls, but it's a bit biased, so I wont include it  )
