I was able to move objects.
However, the procedure seems to me a little more complicated

it would be much easier if you coud just select them and move them in the viewport.

That's where the plug-ins come into play. We could start adding more user friendly features to position objects, but the Octane standalone version cannot offer the flexibility and productivity of a modelling package like Max or Maya.

Octane needs a grouping tool to group things in the viewport for movements. It could be using the materialzones as it already knows them.
