well, there is no bidirectional pathtracing in octane - yet - what of course currently limits the possibilities.
but if i raise iso or exposure a little, you can see that the shadows are of course tinted by the refracted light.

regarding that thea images: as this seem to be tubes, they should not create caustics like a solid body?

Yes, you are correct. They should not give caustics like a solid body and it does not (there are differences in KT between hollow and full cylinders)
My guess that outcome is depandant on more than one factor, and that Octane, as unbiased engine, does caustics better.

I tried to mess a bit with IOR in KT you can see the results below, and when comparing it to Octane... Octane does way better job. I am not sure why KT works like this, but at this point it becomes irrelevant, as since caustics are being calculated nicely in Octane, and i intend to buy Octane licence... well.. that's a good bye for KT.
