I figured you were interested in the final render time, so I let Octane finish the render.

Here is a screenshot for while it is rendering and a screenshot when it is finished, showing the final time (01:15:38)

It looks like my GTX 470 averaged about 2.06 megasamples/sec. I didn't try any overclocking.

on a side note, we're also going to supply a fermi optimized build with the next 2.1 update.
the binary davidt is using is a standard compute model 1.0 / 8000 version.

i don't know if it will change the speed much, we'll have to wait and see.

Wait ... so a GTX480 is (theoretically/roughly) 3.5 times faster than my 9800GT? And GTX470 only 2.8 times faster? That doesn't seem to be particularly impressive, given how old/slow my card is and all the hype about the new fast architecture and whatnot.

well, first of all, these are the first tests, and we've not built a fermi optimized version so they might improve.
also the difference between 9800 and GTX200 series is minimal, they have been relatively the same.

Ok my turn:

Windows 7 ultimate 64bits
i7 860 @ 2.80GHz 4GB Ram
Nvidia GT240
results as per image attached.

I did let it cook for half an hour and it reached around 2.000 samples (Almost noise free and quiet alot of fireflys all over the place)

And for a little fun, overclocked to 680 core and 3548 memory gives 2.21 megasamples/sec on average.

it' be very carefully with that, it's already running hot... :)

Actually I played with the manual fan settings, I only let it run for a few minutes and the max temperature was about 66C. Although, I don't plan on overclocking it normally.

I tried on my machine at work (GTX275) and I've got a 1.52 megasample/pixel... and this is a quiet old card and cost around 217 Euros... then GTX 470 starts at 400 Euros... to get a gain of 0.5+-?

Is it worthed? Or I got my maths wrong?

I think we need to do more tests when we've figured out the issues with the new fermi cards.
the fact that the device manager says it's a compute 1.0 (eg 8000 series) cards with only 110 cuda cores kinda makes these benchmarks not %100 reliable.

I'm hoping to get a reply from nvidia about this soon.
