Sorry, I am very confused now. You said you were getting a black viewport - however the viewport looks OK in the above images and you are getting another error. Can you pls clarify what is happening? One screenshot after Rhino is opened and Octane started first time (anything looks fine) and than I pressed paused at the viewport and opened a new empty file (error).
I see - sorry for my confusion. This looks like a Rhino or Nvidia graphics card issue. Have you tried turning off rendering for the graphics card responsible for your display? And I suggest checking the Rhino->Rhino Options->View settings to see if there are any setting wrong. In particular, you probably want to turn OFF Use Advanced GPU Lighting.I mean all Rhino viewports are dead, only complete black. (You can see it at some of my screenshots.)
As a test, try rendering on the other card. Rhino can sometimes use a different card to your display adapter for it's OpenGL processing. It is worth testing.the Advanced GPU lighting was off already. I disabled my display card for rendering now, but the problem is still there.
This definitely sounds like a Rhino or Nvidia driver issue to me. You are the first user to report this issue. May I suggest posting it in the McNeel forums to see what the Rhino devs say.I found, if the viewports are black, than I can blind draw a box and start a rendering. So, it looks like the Rhino display pipeline is crashed if Octane was enabled during loading a new file.
