Good OBJ trees?

Hi

I have a plant collection from HQ plants that I use in 3ds max. The collection is quite nice, and now I look for something similar for Sketchup. I have tried to convert the objects from MAX to obj, with help from resmas (thanks) but it gets to complicated.

Therefore I would like to hear if anyone can recommend a OBJ (for proxy) tree / plant collection?

The plants and trees must be like 'real' trees - eg. birch, oak etc...

Thanks :-)

Hi,
When very detailed plants needed, I used Xfrog plants sometimes.
You can download some free samples to make tests.
They look very good and are delivered with obj files.
The limit is the price... and the size make them unusable within SU (so its ok to keep them as proxy with Octane)

Some time ago I downloaded all the free samples from xfrog and packed into a torrent. There are like 150 textured objects. Really fine quality. If you want them, this is the link for the torrent:

Hi Paquito

Thanks for you effort - but I get an error when I try to extract the rar file.

Does anyone know what can cause this?

I have tried to download two times, and both times I got this error :-/

Hello there. thx Paquito for the link, I'm trying to download, but in torrent there are no seeds, are you seeding the file? It just downloaded 1,7%.

About the OBJ trees, I generally use Blender to do them, or Arbaro http://arbaro.sourceforge.net/, they are great and FREE :D

here a simple tutorial using both of them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uabftHFJar8, not the best tut, but it help.

The 3D tree in Sketchup plugin looks ok but I never used, maybe in the future I will try it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnJJi2ZX1ko

A good way of creating HiRes trees is Blender with the Sapling Generator. A bit complex but with lots off control.

Most of the time I just use a simple tree and edit it to my taste, then I save it as .obj and keep increasing my personal library. I do the same with cars. I get free models, from Warehouse, or sites with free stuff, open then in Blender edit them to add more detail or remove interiors that we don't need and then save as .obj.

The next step it to open that tree or car (.obj) in Octane StandAlone edit them with materials, save to my library and then I can use in other projects.

with the amazing proxies option inside Octane4SU its a great way to save time using libraries.

cheers

Very useful thread. There was also a software called " tree[d] " but it's hard to find. The blender solution is very nice. I like these trees!

hi neo83_gr

I'm trying out tree[d] - please see this thread

I guess creating the right transparency for leaves are no go with .obj files?
