Here's some general tips:

Try to only use the official/big releases of Blender for projects (RCs can be OK), if you don't need a certain feature that currently is in trunk.

Don't switch version in the middle of a project (again: unless you really need to..)

Don't throw away earlier versions of Blender when you switch to a new version.
New versions (especially from trunk etc) can be rather prone to have problems with plugins etc.
If you keep the "older" versions (at least those you know work fine), you have a backup if plugins don't play nice with the latest version.
This plugin (and most other plugins) are developed and maintained by enthusiast that do it whenever they have time over. You can't expect it to work with every single build of Blender (or even Octane..).
And Yoyoz is doing a great job!
I'm currently using 2.68a and the plugin seems to work "fine"(*). I only use it for animation, if I'm doing still renders in Octane I actually prefer to do it "manually" (exporting OBJ and setting it up in Octane), it's less hassle!
Last note: Again, this isn't an official plugin, so you have to take it for what it is. They are working on an official plugin (
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=27350) that will make things easier, but it wont really replace this plugin...
(* It was a bit troublesome, like crashing without reason when I tried to render the animation a few times and then magically it worked again..)
