Being able to hand-tweak files will make it a lot easier to fake presets by just keeping code snippets with BBEdit or whatever.
I wish more companies did this.

i think once we start embedding binary data in them it will get messy

that's to be expected considering you'll probably have some proprietary stuff in there eventually but for shader nodes and texture linking, it's great. Can't wait for the next beta.

an alternative to shoving binary data in there would be to save it externally and reference it?
