Can't get rid of area-based hot pixels.

Hi there,

I'm sorry that this is posted in the wrong place, but I can't access the Maxon Cinema 4D sub-forum despite having V3 standalone and Cinema plugin.

I've attached an image here below, where you can see the issues I'm having with hot pixels. It is mostly visible to the left on the dark area of the scene.

I've tried various ways to remove it with the samples and settings but nothing seems to do the trick. If I increase the samples, or play around with hot pixel removal, but it doesn't get rid of it - so I figured it might be something else.

I've tried to remove and add lights to the scene to figure out if it was an overexposed lightsource, but I didn't achieve the results I wanted. It did however help to improve the samplerate for the lights.

Do I have issues in that side of the scene do to the lack of light, or am I missing something else?

Any help is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much ! :)

NOTE: I did search the forums, and tried to apply some of the fixes that have been suggested, but nothing really did the trick.

Hi MadsBroni,
could you post a screenshot your kernel settings?
Do you have environment medium active?
The image posted has the hot pixel removed applied?
If yes, please could you post an image without it?

Hi Beppe!

Thanks for getting back to me. Once I've finished this project, I'll make sure to thank you in the credits, as this is the third time you are helping to solve my problems :)

I've attached the settings for the kernel, and yes, the environment medium settings :)

The image I posted have hot pixel removal set to 1. I hope this helps.

Hi Mads,
great, it would be an honor :)
About the noise, when you use the environment medium, it's easy to have to render with higher sampling to clean in some zones.
My suggestion is to render at 6000 sampling or higher but with different settings to speed up the render:
- Path termination power: try with the max value of .
- Coherent ratio: between 0.35 and 0.5.
- Static noise: active
- Parallel sampling: depending on your free VRAM, augment the value till 16 if possible.
- Max tile samples: at max value of 32.
- Minimize net traffic: inactive if you render with Network rendering active.

On the other side, you can use the Z-depth pass to add the fog in post

Thanks Beppe!

I went ahead and implemented the settings you mentioned, and it seem to have decreased the hot pixel to an almost un-noticable level. I did a few adjustments to the lights and moved some elements around, and now it looks clean. Thank you so much buddy! Totally appreciate your help! You are awesome!

Thanks for that Max samples btw. that helped a lot with the render time :)
