Hi all,
This is the plugin build based on OctaneRender® 2024.1 Alpha 2 SDK. Any feedback will be much appreciated. Enjoy it!
This is the Standalone matching OctaneRender® 2024.1 Alpha 2.

Some important notes about these builds:

The minimum NVIDIA driver version that is required by this version is 522. You can launch Octane with an older driver version, but it will fail to render and it will produce an error message in the log.

The minimum supported macOS version is 14. If you depend on using an older version, please let us know.

Open Image Denoise is supported on CUDA compute model 7 and later, we fallback to the CPU version on machine with older models. On macOS, only the CPU version is supported.

As with all experimental builds, we advise to not use this release for production purposes. We are trying to, but we can't guarantee that scenes saved with this version will be compatible in future releases. Changes are being made daily.


IN ANY CRASH CASE PLEASE DO THESE!!!
If you see CUDA errors follow 1,2,3,4.
1- Use NVIDIA STUDIO drivers, not Game Ready versions. If you have stability issues try different drivers, some of them could cause instability issues. Make a clean install while doing this to be sure previous files completely removed.
2- Check GPU frequency. Overclocking would cause instability issues
3- Check PSU. Insufficient power output would cause instability issues
4- Check the free amount of GPU's VRAM and system's RAM while working. Low VRAM will/may cause CUDA errors. Be aware of some generator objects will have different triangle count in Picture Viewer than Live Viewer. It’s like “editor/render” parameter. Just try to use the same value. Also try to optimize your scene for polygon count, even use smaller images. Try to use Octane texture nodes rather than using C4D texture/shaders.
Alternatively, use V4 and Out-of-core(OOC) function. Increase RAM for OOC and It should not exceed physical RAM amount. Check TDR value and increase if it's necessary.
5- If you see C4D crashes without CUDA errors, then send us bugreport.zip, screen-shots and video capture to show process and crash moment. Also please send us a sample scene in a format of C4D or ORBX to let us investigate and test it. Alternatively, try to delete/hide some objects/materials until crash gone away. If you find what's causing crashes, send us a sample scene to let us for investigating and bring a fix or solution.
Thanks for helping the development by your feedbacks! It’s impossible to quickly catch every case without user feedbacks! It’s the same procedure as other companies do like Maxon/etc...

2024.1_Alpha_2 revisions
  • Added new Light mixer output AOV layer node. This has the same functionality as the old Light mixer output AOV node, which is now hidden.
  • Made the Legacy output AOV layer node visible to allow output AOVs of older scenes to be used as layers in the new output AOV node.
  • Added "Subtract" and "Divide" blend modes to the Legacy output AOV layer node.
  • Added pin "Affect occlusion only", which controls whether only the alpha channel is modified, or whether the (premultiplied) RGB channels are also modified, to the following output AOV layer nodes:
    Adjust opacity
    Mask with layer group
    Mask with Cryptomatte
  • Added the following new output AOV layer nodes, which can be used to store an image during compositing and recall it in a higher layer and make it easier to build reusable effects, and can improve performance by preventing repeated work:
    Save checkpoint
    Load checkpoint
    Discard checkpoint
  • Added new Sharpen output AOV layer node.
  • The "Camera imager" node type is now called "Imager", because it's not related to cameras.
  • The Imager node's "Saturate to white" pin is now called "Clip to white".
  • Added option to switch between shading and smooth normals in the falloff texture node. This also fixes the problem that the mode "Normal vs. eye ray" did not take bump mapping into account.
  • Refactored how we allocate memory for the denoiser buffers: Buffers required by the denoiser will be allocated before we upload the scene data to make sure that we have the required memory available to run the denoiser when needed. This should solve cases where the denoiser failed due to an insufficient amount of available memory.
  • OSL: Added ray type "direct" to the OSL function raytype() to match direct light rays.

Please note the macOS build below will only work correctly on macOS 13.3 and newer, and only on Apple Silicon.

Requirements:
-You'll need to update your Cinema 4D to latest versions(R16.050, R17.053, R18.057, R19.053, R20.057, R21.115, S22.118, R23.110, R24.111, R25.117, R26.107, R2023.2, R2024.1.0). Otherwise, the plugin will not work and not appear in menus.
-Internet connection for activation, be sure that C4D and Octane will not be blocked by the firewall and any antivirus software.
-Nvidia drivers at least Nvidia Studio Drivers(minimum 456.38) and be careful with latest Game Ready drivers which can cause cuda errors. Stay with stable one for you.

Installation
First, remove all octane related stuff from plugins and the main folder of Cinema4D.

Extract all files to Cinema4D\plugins\c4dOctane directory.
Also, download manual.zip and extract to c4dOctane directory if it's not available in place.

There are a few files for each one is for different Cinema4D version. Remove all except the file is for your version.
Ex. if you have Cinema4D R2023, keep only "c4dOctane-R2023.xdl64" and delete c4dOctane-R26.xdl64, c4dOctane-R25.xdl64, c4dOctane-R24.xdl64, c4dOctane-R23.xdl64, etc..

Thank you for fast update.
Issue with removing AOV inputs. It remove all of them.

I found it.. first time doing render nodes on this end.. so.. yeah I figured it out just thought I would confirm

FYI - soon as I enable network rendering then hit the network settings button. I get endless Mac beachball.
M2 Ultra Mac Studio latest c4d on both the Mac and pc and 2024.x daemon running on the PC

Hi, I just installed this new version to test network rendering between my PC and my Mac. I have installed 2024 render node on my PC and the Mac rendering is working through the standalone application, but it doesn't show any nodes when I go to C4D. Can you guys give me any hints on what I could be doing wrong? Thanks !

seems most of my beach balling was from the octane plugin being in /applications/...plugins/. rather than the other path of /home/library/preferences/maxon/.....plugins
once I moved it there things were much better.. I assume its a read/write privilege issue..

as for adding in the machine install and run the daemon on the PC and start it so you have the cmd window showing..
I also installed and tested octane standalone and c4d octane was loading in c4d on the PC as well ..then all you should need to do is run the daemon on the pc..
and run cinema on Mac enable network rendering and ADD the IP address of the PC and bind...
then it seemed to just work for me!

Excited for the network render support. Havent had much luck yet though unfortunately.
Latest build of C4d on an Apple M2 Ultra networking to a pc with two 3080TIs.
Recognizes the slave fine in the settings but when rendering does one of two things.

1) If its a very simple scene like a cube and sunlight - it lists gpu2/2 but has no effect on actual render time...

or 2) a more complicated scene, ie a 3d model of a truck.. it says 0/2 for the Gpus and never actually finishes updating.

anyone else having this issue, any workarounds?
