Saadly I had to rollback to Vray, because my scenes is around 38 mio polys. And I was amazed that this scenes runns in Vray RT without problems.

So who says Vray is bad?! :-)

I really like Octane, hope they fix the poly limit wall.

rog!

You shouldn't have issues with 38 million tris, I just setup 46 million in maya and exported to abc, and loaded in octane without problems. There could be an issue with the plugin itself though, I didn't check.

I'll check with Christophe on multi uv support.

Octane materials convertor not working.

Purchased this bit of furniture from 3d sky which looks fantastic till Octane renders it.
https://3dsky.org/3dmodels/show/pottery_barn_dinner_set

Thought Octane was supposed to convert automatically now? Even so, I clicked all the convert buttons but nothing happens.

Saved closed and reloaded but still all grey with unknown materials.

Reinstalled OctaneRender_for_3ds_Max_3.05.3_-_4.30 and tried to convert again, no luck.

It isn't even a case of not finding the maps, I could look for them myself.

Have done a screengrab to see if you can make sense of what's happening...

Using Max 14, windows 7.

Also, the Octane button in the menu bar was great for a while, then disappeared. Reappeared after another install but doesn't do anything...

perhaps you have not installed the render in which you created the scene - if it is created in Vray you must be Vray in 3Dmax - try
...........
originally 3Dmax must understand the materials that are used in the scenes ... if he doesn't see properties of materials namely ( for example, if you have not installed vray scene made with it ) then this error occurs

Sooo, in order to use Octane, I have to have a different renderer installed? Didn't realise that.

Erm, ok.

Don't have Vray, what's the cheapest way of getting it?

Ah, found this.

Can anyone from Otoy please confirm that this is necessary in order to access the pool of 3d models available out there? Would really like some help from the people who made my renderer before I have to start installing a different one.

Thanks Goldis, you are a star.

Downloaded the Vray demo and now everything works. :-)

Must have missed it when Otoy told us that you need to have Vray installed. Strange they don't make it more obvious really. I wonder how many users have left because they didn't know. I nearly did !

Neon, Haze

Biggest thing for Octane in years is Adaptive sampling and it looks like it's finally here :D
...for the standalone version anyway :(

Pleeeeeease tell us the max plugin version with AS is arriving very, very soon.

What's the ETA?

the thing is if you don't have vray installed 3dmax will not even identify your maps with textures, it comes out as missing plugin like you showed
- it's not really up to octane, you cannot convert something that you cannot import.. makes sense really.. but yeah it should be mentioned somewhere

We are very keen to get this out asap. Shouldn't take too long to do, but can't guarantee a particular day at this stage, but probably days, not weeks.
