Saw the press release. I like what I see. Literally checks all the boxes I really needed checked: displacement, rounded edges, hair&fur, variation textures, and network rendering. If all of these actually get shipped this year I will be very happy.

Maybe I'm too excited and overlooked it, but is there an ETA for Octane 2? Is it related to the "second half of 2014" of the After Effects plugin?

Well done, guys. Very well done all those features at once. Can't wait.

We aim for a first release in April. It may not contain all of the mentioned features, but most of them.

Really looking forward to April! I'm super excited to see what will be happening in the next few months, Octane looks like it's on a roll. I suppose the pricing for updating to 2.0 will be kept under wraps for a while?

Also, this wasn't mentioned but does displacement add to memory usage? I presume it does a little.

Literally a complete tick list of the other features Octane needed to be fully fledged. Awesome.

What, an After Effects plugin?? You make me so happy.

I've long thought about the future of 3D in AE, and the seemingly tough limitation to bypass it is the fact that AE doesn't progressively refine a single frame, but only displays the rendered result after it is completely finished. So how will Octane, a progressive refinement renderer, fit into the mix here? I'm thinking of a complex comp where it is already taking 10 seconds to display the final result on a frame... if the bottom of that comp, the 3D render, is updating 15 times a second as it progressively refines, wouldn't AE also then need to update it's stack of FX processed after Octane's render. So I'm just not understanding how we can get realtime 3D in a compositing environment.

I look very forward to hearing more about this.

you can tweak maxsamples to adjust feedback speed.

It is awesome, and I'm pleased with some of what's on offer, but please please please can you spend some resources on getting a better variety of procedurals?
