Render Crop

I just had my first quick play-around with a bike model - I love the direction this software is heading :) Really nice way to work (if eventually it can get geared up
for working in a commercial sense, with all the kinds of tools and functionality that we need).
I set up the camera for a nice close-up of the bike, set the resolution to 1600px, but then when I saved out the image it
totally zoomed out and i ended up with the bike as a small part of the frame. How come it did not render what I had set up in the viewport ?
I also found that with the front headlamp, no matter what I did with the glass material, all i got was a black lump of coal (so i changed the headlamp to a glossy material instead :(

Thx - I really look forward to seeing how Octane develops. (wish i wasnt so busy, then i could have a go at that competition :)

I also got this issue with the specular material (blackness), but eitherway, nice render here. ;)

Hey,

It's probably normal related.
Make sure you're normals point outwards on both sides of the glass (if it's double sided, which it should be)
You also need to increase the maxdepth parameter so the light can go through, touch the inside,
then go out again.

So switch to pathtracing and set your maxdepth higher than say 8 for your final.

THe image extends beyond the view of your window, to make sure that it is all in the actual render view, try panning around to check that it is zoomed in enough

thanks chaps. I'll play around with that some more, although I am not sure i understand how the viewport relates to the rendered output. If I want a 1600 x 1200 image of my bike, totally zoomed in so the bike is 90% of the image, how do I do that ? Thx again

How large is your monitor?

The way I do HD images, is to make the render preview window fullscreen, hide my taskbar and then position my camera, as that is closest to the final size (I have a 1920x1080 monitor)
