when making final renders, turn on filtering, it will make the image look much smoother,
and eliminate the aliasing.

also, if you switch to the path tracing kernel, it should be enabled by default.
(it's not enabled by default on the directlighting/ambient occlusion for previewing/editing as it's a bit slower)

Thanks for explaining, for some reason my default was that it was unchecked, I'll definitely look out for that in the future :) The other thing that may have affected it was that I left the Aperture fully open!?

It is a lot slower tho', but then maybe the speed came as a result of me trying to use the internet while it churned away!

Anyways, better AA'd version.

turning on filtering does impact the speed more on older cards.
newer GTX200 series don't have as much speed impact...

The front on render was real quick, I think I could have got away with about 2 mins! I just left the later one to cook for a while, i.e. try to get rid of that noise.

I will always try and use the non-filtered approach in Path Tracing first as it seemed to be twice as quick but yielded aliased results. As I said, it was fine non-filtered for the front on image.

I couldn't resist another version, as much as I love Modo renders, it just doesn't come up to the standard of Octane IMO. In Modo you can spend an age tweaking the irradiance cache values to try and eliminate splotchy renderings! In most case in doing so results in quite long render times anyway, plus it's not always guaranteed...

This latest version came in @ 50s, I wanted to do a quick render as I wanted to add a little post processing...

nice, the glare is very well done :)
makes me thing of implementing some glare in octane.
it will have to wait a bit though, lots of other priorities first :)

Cheers Radiance,

I think it would be nice to have a few post options eventually. Maybe adding a noise pattern with various blending modes, overlay/screen/multiply etc... etc... Be nice if you can control how much noise is introduced and the likes. Or maybe an overlay mode so you can add your own texture and then be able to pan it around the image.

Of course it might be overkill as most peeps would probably prefer to keep all this to post-processing!

May not float everyones boat but I'm not really keen on ultra sharp imagery (can sometimes look too CG), of course it has it's place...
