This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for Poser TEST and STABLE releases.

SOLUTIONS TO COMMON ISSUES

1) Make sure your NVIDIA drivers are up to date.

2) Make sure you have the latest Poser Service Release installed.

3) Pls read http://poserphysics.blogspot.com.au/2016/03/before-you-submit-octane-support.html prior to posting support issues.

4) Cuda error 999 - failed to load shader code: Multiple definition of 'cpSptStatistics' in 'cuda_teturemode' means that your plugin version is too old for the Nvidia drivers that are installed, so update to the latest version of the plugin.

5) LiveDb materials containing OSL nodes will not load into the plugin correctly. The plugin does not currently support OSL Projection or Texture nodes. Instead, copy these Livedb materials into the clipboard from Octane Standalone and paste them into a NodeGraph material in the plugin.

5) If you get render artifacts at a joint between two Body Parts of a Figure, switch the Figure's Skinning Method to "Poser Unimesh".

Poser Version
This release only runs on Poser 12 and Poser 13. It will not run on Poser 11

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 452 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release from the Octane Standalone installer which matches the exact Octane version of the plugin you are using.

Support Issues
If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- OctaneRender for Plugin version (ie. 2.23.1.56)
- Poser version (Poser -> Help -> About Poser) - list the build number (eg. 9.0.3.23027)
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version

Also have ready a copy of
- octaneplugin.log and cuda.log file from your Poser temp direction (Poser -> Edit -> General Preferences -> Misc tab to find the temp directory), and
- config.xml, which is in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Poser Pro\9 for Poser 9/2012 and C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Poser Pro\10 for Poser10/2014.

If you have questions

If you save a .PZ3 scene containing any new Octane 2021.1 nodes and then need to reload that scene into an earlier version of the plugin, you will get an "Error creating pin None as type * for saved item" python error. If this happens, you need to find the materials in the Material tree containing these nodes and rightclick->"Reconvert this Material from Poser".

Current STABLE build for Poser 12 and Poser 13 (Octane 2023.1.3)

Previous STABLE build for Poser 12 and Poser 13 (Octane 2023.1.2)

Release Notes

2023.1.3.124 (18-Apr-2024)
- Compiled with Octane 2023.1.3
- When exporting a scene to ORBX, the Material nodes will have the mesh name pre-pended to the material name to make it easier to identify which mesh node that material node belongs to

2023.1.2.123 (12-Mar-2024)
- Fixed issue where if there is no default rendertarget, the Render Passes pin on the Rendertarget could not be set

2023.1.2.122 (4-Mar-2024)
- Compiled with Octane 2023.1.2

2023.1.0.122 (1-Nov-2023)
- Fixed issue where Texture Composite Layers were appearing in the Texture types combobox

2023.1.0.121 (26-Oct-2023)
- Compiled with Octane 2023.1
- Added all new Octane 2023.1 Output AOV, Textures and Texture Layer nodes
- Some Output AOV Layers are not included (such as Apply LUT, layers which have OCIO pins like Apply OCIO Look and Apply Custom Curve)
- The Compositor pin on the Rendertager is now the Output AOV pin
- Added Dispersion Mode to the Standard Surface Material, Specular Material, Specular Material Layer, Universal Material. This defaults to "Abbe number". Change this to "Cauchy formula" in order to render as per Octane 2022.1
- Added Cast Photons to the Environment
- Added the Enabled pin for each material input of the Composite Material
- TIF and JPEG save formats have not been implemented
- Switch nodes have not been implemented
- Analytic and Directional lights have not been implemented
- Fixed issues where Subd Level and Subd sharpness controls were not working correctly. If you press enter on these controls you get an annoying beep, which I have not been able to resolve

Wonderful, thank you!
... The other day I was thinking about, asking you, if you'd consider building the 2023.x versions of the plugin, but hesitated to do so. Now I got my answer. 8-)
To bad for some of the things not being implemented, but I guess not everything is possible anyway.
So, still, thank you so much for the new version (and the new versions to come, perhaps!) :)

Any ideas, what is causing this?
scene.PNG

Doing nothing big, just the ground and a ball in the scene and playing around with the new "Adjust" nodes, like brightness, color, etc.
Even tho the error message box writes something about Poser 12, I'm running it on Poser 13.

And yay! Thanks for fixing the SubD bug from the previous version :D ... works great now :!:

"Adjust brightness" is an Output AOV Layer, not a texture - so in theory it should not appears in that combobox. If you can work out the set of steps that reproduces this I will take a closer look.

Thanks

Just something you can put a "Material" on, loaded into Poser (the Posers ground plane, or the primitive ball will do already) and running the plugin.
The material type doesn't matter (Glossy, Diffuse, Metallic ... ). The nodes appear wherever there's the drop down menu.
Hope that helps.

"- Analytic and Directional lights have not been implemented"

Question: any idea on when those lights will be implemented?

As I understand it they offer less noisy lighting, which is certainly something I would be interested in. Also, are there any drawbacks to using the Analytic and Directional lights as opposed to the existing lighting options?

None of the Octane Light types are implemented in the plugin. The Poser plug was developed prior to Light types being implemented in Octane - so the plugin design does not really cater for these items (it instead creates emitter geometry to replicate the Poser light, but there is no way to adjust the specific Octane emitter properties). There is no easy way to attach the Octane Light item pins to a Poser light. Ideally, all the Poser scene lights would be listed in the Material List on the Materials tab of the plugin, and you could tweak and adjust the light pins as you currently do the materials. So in summary, I don't think these lights will be supported by the plugin in the near future.
