Poser or Octane subdivision

Which subdivision should I use when working with the Octane plugin, the one in Poser (Figure -> Skinning Method -> Unimesh and then augment render subdiv) or the one in the plugin under Materials?

And what is a good setting for these if you want quality curves? If I set it to 2 inside Poser, I already get messages about low memory (but I have 16 Gb).

Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Peter - using the Octane subdivision is a little quicker to load compared with Poser subdivision. Other than that, they are probably reasonably similar. You'll need to experiment with the settings to see what works best for you.

In my experience, Poser subdivision is more strict, in the sense that more models will spike out in Poser than doing the same in Octane when subdivided.

Thanks, I'll experiment with the subdiv in Octane, seems more logical if I use the plugin.

@ Paul

Is there any impact on animation? Like cracking of mesh's etc if we are using Octane subD?

Octane subd should work fine for animations - although I haven't tested exporting to Octane Standalone to subd meshes with render motion blur.

I can confirm that subdivision is not implemented when exporting it as an animation for rendering it solely in octane render standalone.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Can you provide more details pls?
