This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for DAZ Studio - TEST (ie. pre-release) and STABLE releases.

SOLUTIONS TO COMMON ISSUES

1) Make sure your NVIDIA drivers are up to date.

2) Make sure you are running the latest version of the OctaneRender for DAZStudio plugin.

3) If you experience a DAZStudio crash - deleting C:\Users\[username]\OctaneRender\Data\OctaneRender_settings.oczdb may resolve the issue.
This also resolves the "COULD NOT INITIALISE IN-MEMORY DB!" error on startup and a number of other issues.

4) If the Save button is disabled when using the Final button - disable the Final button and in Render settings select the SuperScope (2:1) Size / aspect ratio and drag the Viewport height or width until you reach required resolution.

5) If rendering an animation fails after 11 frames - make sure the DAZStudio viewport is visible when you render the animation.

6) If Octane materials are not loading when you load a previously saved scene - tick Preferences->Load OctaneRender materials from .duf user presets. If ticking this option does not stick between DAZStudio restarts, delete OctaneRender_settings.oczdb as per NOTE 3 above.

7) If you get a "Could not save a frame for X times!" - please refer to the thread at [url]
[/url] for potential solutions.

8) If you get a "Bogus Scene Path" error - this is due to having an apostrophe in the filepath of a texturemap (so store your textures in foldernames which do not have apostrophes).

9) Octane panel title bar is off the screen and cannot be closed - click anywhere on the Octane panel and then press Alt-F4.

10) Rendering animation results in the scene emitter intensities changing - this is because rendering animations is done in "Final" mode, where meshes are merged. To resolve this, UNTICK the Preferences->Use Combined Mesh, or ENABLE the Surface Brightness pin on each of the emission materials in the scene.

11) Denoiser is not working - make sure you have a graphics card selected for Denoising in the System tab->Open Device Settings window, and that you are using the Path Tracing kernel.

12) Render artifacts near eyebrows - this is due to the eyebrow geometry going inside the head mesh surface. So morph, move or scale the eyebrows so they do not intersect with the head mesh.

13) Octane panes do not appear on the screen (ie. they open off the screen) - Main Menu Bar->Window->Workspace->Select Layout->Accept (you might choose a different layout to the current layout to make this work).


KNOWN ISSUES AWAITING RESOLUTION

1) Panoramic camera and OSL nodes are not currently supported.
2) Templating is not currently working for specular and roughness maps from Iray materials. - FIXED (please report any issues)
3) UDIM Tiles are not currently supported. - FIXED (please report any issues)
4) Some of the newer OctaneRender material and texture types are not supported. - FIXED (please report any issues)
5) VDB volume and volumetric spotlight nodes are not currently supported.

DAZ Studio Version
DAZ Studio 4.8 or later on Windows 8, 10 or 11 64bit

DAZ Studio 4.21 has just been released and the plugin has not been thoroughly tested with it yet, although it is expected to work.

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped.
Also, make sure you use an Nvidia Studio driver of version 451.xx or higher.

Network Rendering

For Network Rendering, you must use the OctaneRender Enterprise Node release from the Octane Standalone forums/download page which matches the exact Octane version of the plugin you are using. This version matches OctaneRender Enterprise 2021.1.6 Render Node builds.

Support Issues
If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win 8, 10, 11)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- DAZ Studio version
- OctaneRender for DAZ Studio version (e.g. 2021.1.6_83) and subscription type (Enterprise/Studio/Prime)

- The most important part of resolving a problem is being able to reproduce that problem. So pls provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Changes since 2021.1.6 - 78

  • Improved the image browser dialog
    • [FIX] Fixed a memory leak and some potentially unsafe code in the image browser dialog
    • [FIX] Fixed sorting of items in the image browser dialog - they should now always be sorted alphabetically
    • [NEW] Made the sections on the image browser dialog resizable
  • [FIX] Fixed importing of render settings from ORBX files
  • [NEW] Added a bulk delete dialog for rendersettings and environments

    Please take a backup of your presets database before playing with this. You can find the database file at C:\Users\<username>\OctaneRender\Data\OctaneRender_presets.oczdb.
  • Fixed some issues when merging a scene into an existing scene (File->Merge)
    • [FIX] Various settings are no longer reset to the state they had when loading the original scene
    • [FIX] The "No Environment" factory preset is no longer duplicated
  • [NEW] Added two options to control whether render settings and environments are imported when merging a scene.

  • [NEW] Daz materials with a non-black emission color are now translated to an Octane Diffuse material with a Blackbody emission node attached
    • Currently this only looks at the "Emission Color" property, which what it is called in the Iray Uber shader. If there are other properties in different shader types that should be taken into account, please let me know.
    • The diffuse, specular and opacity maps/values are carried across, but currently no attempt is made to match the power of the light; it is always left at the default of 100W.
  • [NEW] When importing textures from Daz, the gamma setting from Daz is used if it's available - this particularly fixes normal maps being used with a gamma of 2.2 instead of 1
  • [FIX] The names of node types in the Node Graph Editor have been changed to be the same as Octane Standalone
  • [FIX] The "Transform value" node type is now properly supported - this is the default transform node for many procedural textures
  • [FIX] Nodes that have more than one editable attribute (such as Transform value) no longer have strange behaviour when editing said values

Please save the crash dump and attach it. Also, make sure to let me know the exact version and edition you're using, e.g. 2021.1.6_83 Enterprise, and what you were doing when the crash occurred.

Here's the zip that I sent to daz that has the log and dump files. I'll try the debug version tomorrow. Also using this latest plugin and daz 4.21, although it was doing it on 4.20 as well. And it seems kind of random when it occurs. One time I was just moving the viewport and it crashed. Another time I was editing a material and it crashed.

Thanks for that. It looks like the crash occurred in one of the threads created by the Octane DLL. There is no plugin code involved in that thread, so I can't say much more about it. Please post a crash dump from the debug version if it happens again.

Next step is to enable extra Octane debug output. Please create a file called octane_log_flags.txt in the DAZStudio4 directory (the same location as octane.dll) with the following contents:

This should cause a file called octane_log.txt to be created in the same directory. If the directory is not writable then the file will be created in the directory identified by the TEMP environment variable. You can browse this directory by entering %TEMP% in the location bar of Windows Explorer.

Please send me the octane_log.txt file after a crash happens (the file is overwritten each time you start Daz, so make sure to copy it before restarting).

Note that this extra logging will slow the operation of the plugin down significantly, so you will probably want to remove the log flags file when we've gotten to the bottom of this.

It might be a bit before I get around to this. I did a fresh install of windows so I'm still installing stuff. I feel like I might have some sort of hardware problem but I will try this as soon as I can.

I've never noticed this before, but today when I turned on denoising (this was the first time I've used it since updating to this version), I noticed a big drop in render speed. So after it finished I did a quick test. I loaded a single G8.1F into a new scene, set the render kernel to Path tracing, set the samples to 8000 and render size to viewport.

I ran the render a few times both with and without denoising turned on, with desoising off render times were 60 to 61 seconds, with denoising on render times went up to 86 to 87 seconds, that's about a 40% increase. I'd like to think I would have noticed such a large decrease in speed previously as I use denoising all the time, but I can't say for certain that's it's new to this version.

Is anyone else seeing this?
