Reflection problems

As you can see from the image here .. I've got this problem where the light of the candle flame in the reflection on the water is showing the whole model for the emissive part .. and ignoring the fact that there's an opacity cutout that SHOULD be blocking this from happening. As you can see on the flame itself this is working .. but here's the question?

How the hell do I get the reflected image to behave itself?

I have tried connecting the opacity cutout to the distribution node on the diffuse material .. and whilst this sorts out the reflection .. it screws up the emitted light.

Any thoughts?

It is a setting on the material or the emission node (which I cannot remember at the moment). I suggest you post this question in the general Octane forum.

I've tried everything .. nothing cancels out the relfection .. other than hooking the opacity cutout to distribution on emission node.

Only other thing is to turn off 'visible on specular' .. but then it just gets rid of it entirely .. and the glow against the wall.

Hmm... that is odd... What version of the plugin are you using? I just did a quick and dirty test and it appears that for me it seems to be working as intended. So perhaps it is a bug? Although I'm still using version 4.4.0.44...

The setting that should be responsible for the reflections is the "transparent emission" node.

In my test scene the light is a simple primitive plane with texture emission surface attached to it and a greyscale opacity map assigned to the diffuse material - as seen on the attached screenshot. For catching the reflections I'm using again a simple plane and a cube with specular materials (medium/absorbtion pin enabled in case of the cube).

Yes I'm using version 4.4.0.44

I haven't figured out if I'm able to upgrade further than this with my Octane 4 license .. and frankly I'm really not interested in buying the enterprise license which seems super expensive, and I dislike subscription ware. So I think I'm stuck with this version. Oddly enough I also have the Octane Prime (free) version for DAZ for use on my laptop .. and that plugin seems to have more advanced features than my $800 plug?!? .. Would be nice if the DEV's would at least make the paid DAZ version have some of the same features .. though perhaps those features are just a slight redress of the UI.

I would even try the stand alone Octane .. but frankly this piece of software is just beyond me .. I can't figure out how to get it to do anything.

I have transparent emission turned on .. so this should work? .. I think I tried turning it off but pretty much nothing made any difference except for hooking opacity cutout into distribution.

So perhaps it is a bug?

I will try again and mess around with the transparent emission .. but this didn't do anything before I think.

Hmm .. Okay I turned off Transparent emission .. and now the reflection is working as it should.

The reflection against wall is a LOT less .. so that's kinda bum as I didn't want to lose this .. but then I guess the reason why it was casting a nice big glow was because of the size of the flame model.
Okay .. well it looks like this actually is working then .. I guess I must have just not used this before because it reduced the overall emission light.

The only noticeable difference at the moment in the material setup is the transparent emission node which in my case is off and in yours is on... But as I said, it may be a bug related to this particular pin as I think that in some of my previous scenes this node had to be on to work...

And yeah... I'm also more a fan of "buy to own" licensing model so that is why I'm sticking with version 4 at the moment despite the fact that I need 3 full standalone licenses to be able to use my two network nodes.
