How do you get the recursive effect with the mirror white/black material set to glossy? I can only get this effect when I set them to specular materials.
I've examined the difference between the mirror white and mirror black materials in the scene I'm working on. In this scene a chandelier is reflected in the mirrors. According to my tests the mirror white material provides a more refined reflection so that the illuminated crystals of the chandelier appear clearer and more distinct but the reflection is slightly darker. Using the mirror black material the crystals appear slightly fuzzier but the reflection is brighter. The difference is quite subtle and I'm not sure which one is more true to life or more realistic but I prefer the mirror black material for this scene. I think that the mirror white material slightly dims the mirror reflections which makes it less clear and that isn't great for the recursion effect.
