My bad. There is no light-filter type texture option to the "daylight system" to achieve sun blocking cookies/gobo.
If the gobo texture is hypothetically the only asset/method, It could be applied to a flat plane with to a diffuse material set to black on which the gobo texture is feeding (plugged into) the opacity slot. Not that an opacity approach is recommended but when moderately used, it won't be too cumbersome to render.
