Udims - what works and what doesn't?

I've been trying to use udims on a sphere, to become the earth. All good with the diffuse - the 8 tiles show up as expected.
Is displacements supposed to work with udim as well? I can't make it work at least. Hopefully I'm doing something wrong.

Oops, sorry, posted in the wrong host app group.

In any host app, I'm fairly sure that the current tricks to support UDIM textures are not compatible with displacement, because the displacement only work with a single texture sampler node. Anyway, feel free to ask in the host app forum.

Thanks,

Yes the trick used in Maya for UDIM doesn't work with displacement or normal map because of Octane limitations for these nodes, same problem in Modo or in standalone.

Oooh that sucks. Gotta figure out a workaround then to have the texture align perfectly with the albedo.

Ok, so I'm testing the same setup in LightWave as I did in Modo. To my amazement, I get the very same result.
I have a sphere which I have UV mapped in two ways: one UV set 1 is with UDIM 1-8, UV set 2 is the entire sphere in a single tile, square.
The texture map works if I apply it as the diffuse texture

As expected, when the UDIM UV set 1 is active, it doesn't look right.

Yet again as expected with UV set 2

Now: why won't it work correct when I add this to displacement? It's as if it disregards UV set 2 entirely, and does its own thing. In fact, it does not matter whatever kind of projection I throw at it. It will not change!

The displacement should work with the select UV map. The Octane projections are not compatible with displacement, only the UV mapping works.

I can assue you, it did not respond to selecting different UV maps.
In Modo I have pin pointed it down to: the displacement only applies to UV set 1, and cannot be set to UV set 2.

In my case I had made the UDIM setup in UV set 1, while the sphere was mapped as a single tile in UV set 2 - thus it didn't map correct regardless of which UV set I picked, because the displacement cannot be changed to anything but UV set 1. I have a hunch this is true in LightWave too, in fact, perhaps even Octane as a whole.
