Color Correction / Decrease contrast. [PARTIALLY SOLVED]

Hej.

the Contrast Setting of the Octane Color Correction Node doesnt work with the texture i plugged in.
No matter what value I set, it has no effect. Is my setup wrong ?

In the Modo Preview I simulated what I would have expected.

using:
Win 11 / Modo 16.0v.1 / Octane Plugin 2021.1.5.186 / Nvidia 512.59

kind regards

[PARTIALLY SOLVED]
The contrast setting in the plugin's ColorCorrection node [v2021.1.5.186] is used to increase, not decrease, the contrast, and goes from 0-1000.

If you want to learn more about reducing the contrast of a texture, you are encouraged to search the general Octane forum.(eg Octane Standalone 2021.1.5 release thread)

Hi

This look like an Octane render engine quirk. The Contrast goes up to 1000, where you should see a difference.

Thanks

Good to know. And yes, there is a slight difference. But what would the workflow look like to lower the contrast?

When I set the contrast to 0 in Modo, the image is basically flat.
I use this quite often to manipulate roughness/bump maps.

How would you translate that to Octane?

kind regards

Sorry for the late reply. You will need to ask these questions in the general Octane forum (suggest the Octane Standalone 2021.1.5 release thread).

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback anyway.

A) Could such information (0-1000 and for increase only) please be in the (plugin) documentation?
Would save me the trial and error and you answering my questions. ;)

B) As a feature request, may I suggest that the contrast slider can also be used to decrease the contrast.
Same as the hue adjustment, from -1 to 1. where 0 is no correction.-1 decrease til flat, +1 increase till black&white.

thanks for taking the time

Thanks for the feedback.

a) The slider ranges are all automatically derived from the Octane Standalone SDK - so it's not actually specifically set by the plugin. I think at a practical level, documenting the ranges of every slider in the plugin might be overwhelming.

b) May I suggest posting this Feature Request in the Octane Standalone 2021.1.5 release thread, so the OTOY devs see it.

Thanks
