Once again, this website convinces me to do something better. Thanks!

I'm aware of some of the advantages of .exr usage but I've been hesitant to use them because I'm not very proficient with tools such as da vinci resolve.

Thanks again!

No worries.
DaVinci Resolve isn't as utilized as YouTube content creators / influencers make it look like it is, and was never designed for CGI post nor is presently. A deceptive trend.

EXR shines in compositing software such as Nuke and Fusion Standalone where the workflow is designed for CGI from basic post to advanced compositing and beyond.

Really loved fusion till I found it's 300 dollars, haha! I did look around and found that fusion 9 is free (for some reason I'm not complaining about). I'm not sure if it's any good as the current version is 18. I looked up Nuke and that's expensive as well.

I'll try to make it work with Fusion 9 and if not, I guess I'll try davinci. Are there any other software that you'll recommend?

Too niche of a market for more alternatives (to not say competitor). While not recommended as confusing and leading to several user errors, one way to access latest free Fusion version is within DaVinci Resolve's Fusion Tab. One could ignore all the DaVinci part and focus on the built in Fusion, also known as "DaFusion".

Besides the onerous Flame, Blender's own compositor (usable for simple tasks) and some less recommended alternatives such as Natron, Octane has its own "mini compositor" that keeps receiving care and new features. However, this is from a Standalone perspective, where the full nodal approach is similar to Fusion/Nuke and perhaps similar in Octane Blender, where someone will have to confirm.

I hope this is not out of topic!

I decided to give Fusion 9 a shot. I don't think I need anything more than putting together render passes and color grading them. I'm sure Fusion 9 has those features!

I'd like to know if I'm using correct render settings. I'm unable to get Fusion to get the exr output to look right.

Here's what I've done:

1) Exported a render with these settings

Octane image export setting

2) Within Fusion, imported the exr

3) Connected it to an OCIO Colorspace Node

4) Loaded the config.ocio, which I downloaded from the AgX git repository

5) Set the Source Space to Linear BT.709 and Output Space to Appearance Punchy SRGB

6) Dragged and dropped the OCIO Colorspace node into the viewer.

Nothing happens when I do this. So it makes me wonder if I'm not exporting the image right (Or I could be doing any of the other steps incorrectly).

Thanks!

AgX requires OCIO v2 which is only available in more recent versions of Fusion. However, there is a retro-compatible AgX fork on Github for such situations.

Thank you SO much. It's working now. Blender octane is still pointing to the original AgX. Is it ok if I leave it there or should it also be pointed to this AgXc?

Thanks again!

Given AgX in Blender (or any DCC) is primarily for preview purposes in the IPR, during look-dev and alike (since the export doesn't bake the OCIO image formation), it shouldn't be problematic and would expectedly remain visually consistent (identical).

Thank you, once again! This tool, while it's from 2017, is fantastic (and sort of intuitive).
