Octane v4 vs Octane 2018

Hi Guys

Im just trying to distinguish the difference between the version 4 releases, and the new 2018 offering.
I have a v4 licence, been an hobbying Octane user since the release of v3.

Is my version of Octane v4 going to cease to be updated in place of the new 2018 version?
Im always keen to keep up to date with the new developments offering, already noticed vectron being a 2018 only addition?

What are my options, the information on the site is a bit confusing with regards all the different subscription models etc.
Is v4 no longer getting support in place of 2018? What are my options going forward.

Reall appreciate any clarity that can be given.

Hi,
if you own an Enterprise Combo Standalone + C4D v4 license, and want to upgrade to 2018, you need to upgrade your licenses following these steps:
81F6DC90-02C0-4145-9BB5-687897B74D41.jpeg

  • 1. go to the Otoy Buy page here.
  • 2. press the Upgrade in the top menu.
  • 3. choose between one (199$), or two (399$) annual maintenance plan.
  • 4. press the Buy button, and complete the purchase.

After that you will be able to use any future version without restrictions for one year, have an extra Slave node license for Network rendering, be able to use other DCC Octane plugins, and the ORC service subscription included.

So, I had the same question and am still confused.

Is there currently a difference between the 2018 and V4? And will V4 continue to be updated? Like, will V4 receive the RTX boost once that is ready?

Hi,
v4 will be updated only for minor fixes, we are going to have a v4.03 soon.
Note that RTX support will be added only in v2019 future versions, and cannot be added to both v4 or v2018, since the application need to be completely rewritten.
Both v4 and v2018 can already render with RTX GPUs under CUDA, but without RTX acceleration.
If you own an annual All Access bundle, all the future updates are included, if not, only future v4.x minor updates will be included, without new features.
Hope it is more clear now.

As a hobbyist myself, I hope the Ver 4 is completely debugged before its all about 2018/2019.

Same boat here. I'm hobbyist and I can let away Octane for several months and come back later. and subscription for one year without using it much, seems to waste money...
I think that I will not update to 2018/2019 versions.

If 2018 supported C4D V15, I would buy it.

HI,
Sorry to jump inti this discussion but can someone explain to me what the difference is between these two versions? I am confused. I own a subscription so what version should I be using? I must admit this is a bit confusing.
Thank You

Hi Piotr,
Studio subscription licenses are always up to date.
At the following link you can see the list of new features of v2018 (v5):
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=70809
Is up to you to choose which version you prefer to use, v3, v4 or v2018.
