Hello Abtrax,

First thanks to develop the great plugins for C4D community !

After some test with C4D material, could you add the interpretation of C4D shader to shader octane, It would be a great addition

Thanks

Not possible at the moment. The only way to get data into Octane is by OBJ/MTL files and you can't store anything about shaders in them. Another problem is that most C4D shaders are not available in Octane anyway. The only thing I can think of at the moment is baking shaders, but that is hard as it requires automatic UV mapping, which is a tricky problem. I don't have enough knowledge about this to say if it's possible at all. And baking shaders would also mean that you probably need lots of GPU RAM for the textures.

I don't know what the future plans with Octane are, but don't expect any solution soon.

Cheers,
Marcus

Thanks Abstrax !

Too bad that the conversion does not work like luxRender ;)
anyway thank too for the bake shader tips, Vincent told me the same thing yesterday.

I don't know any details, but I'm pretty sure that future versions of Octane will allow a tighter connection to your 3D app. Just bear in mind that Octane is still very young and this is just a beta version of Octane 1.0. So please be patient and don't compare it with software that is several years old ;)

Marcus
