"There is no CUDA device which is selected..."

I am trying to run Cinema 4D R20 on Windows 11 and when I try to render Octane in the Live Viewer I get this message" "There is no CUDA device which is selected..."

I tried installing the standalone version of Octane Render in hopes it might install the missing element but no luck. Any ideas? If I can't get it working I will have to revert to Windows 10.

Michael

It's a new Intel I7 computer with an NVIDA Geforce RTX 4070 ti graphics card.

Or is this not an OS issue at all but rather an issue with the graphics card I'm using being too new or something?

Hi,
maybe your Nvidia driver is too old, try to perform a clean installation of the last Nvidia Studio driver, and report back, thanks.

To perform a clean installation, please follow these steps:

Thanks but I don't see the same options in the Nvidia graphics driver installer. Does it make a difference. I already installed this driver once. I installed it again with a clean installation and get the same result and pop-up saying "There is no CUDA device which is selected..."

Should I try installing an older driver such as the one in your screenshots?

By the way, I don't know if it makes a difference or could be related, but I had to create a rule in my Windows Firewall to block outgoing connections for Cinema 4D R20 because of the following situation posted by Maxon:

Hi,
nope, the Firewall rule shouldn't be an issue, but it could be related to your license.

Please, write to help at otoy dot com, sharing your OTOY username, thanks.

I have an update. As I explained a little above, I am trying to use Cinema R20 on Windows 11, but R20 can't start up on Windows 11 unless a firewall Outbound Rule is used to block outgoing communication. Like this:

2024-06-11_14-47-31.jpg

Now, apparently, Octane licensing has an issue with this because I get this popup error message from Octane while Cinema is starting up.

If I then disable the Outbound Rule that blocked communication and retry, Cinema starts and I am able to use Octane render without further error messages. (Yes this is progress from before!) The problem now is that if I quit and restart, I have to repeat the same sequence of disabling and then re-enabling the block rule every time, or I can't get past the Octane popup. Is there anything I can do? Is it normal that that Octane requires this communication/verification at startup every time?

Hi,
you need the USB Dongle to avoid this:
