You can only have one UV-Set at the moment.
That´s because Octane use the OBJ format which only support one UV-Set per object.
I think there is a plan to use multiple UV-Sets at the future.

Does that mean, that the integrated plugin still uses OBJ to transfer the data to the renderer?

I wouldn´t say the plugin uses OBJ.
OBJ is nearly the same how Softimage is storing the polygon mesh data.
I would better say, the Octane SDK uses the same hierarchy which OBJ uses.
That´s because only one UV-set is used or why there are no vertex colors or other things.

The Octane standalone can only read OBJ and the SDK is constructed from the Standalone.
If the standalone can read fbx or others, then the SDK/Plugin has the same options.

The plugin itself will read the data which are now used from Octane the same way, similar which file format Octane need.
It will only send more data, like multiple UV-Sets, motion vectors or keyframes. I don´t know...

Hi Face,
just testing the demo version and wondering if displacement and Ice instances are supported?
I can't get either to work for me at the moment.
Cheers,
Sandy

ICE isn´t supported yet but it will come.
Displacement over texture maps?
Octane uses only normal maps at the moment.

Hey Face! Two issues..

If I create a shader tree, and then make a shader compound out of them, it seems the output on the compound is neglected.

I need to preview a scene with more resolution than my monitor. As soon as I go above my width of the monitor in pixels, the display scale is automatically set to 1:2, and after the first sample pass the picture looks like garbage. Is there any way to lock the display scale to 1:1? The output is correct of course :)

You can use a shader compound without a crash?
I haven´t make an implementation of that but work on it after the motion blur is integrated.

About the 1:1 output, you can uncheck the "Autofit viewer" in the preview window under the options button.

Thanks for the reply.
Not sure what you mean by Displacement "over" texture maps. I'm using an image to emboss a logo onto a mesh with displacement. Doesn't show up in the Octane preview window.

With the ICE question I'm using ICE to position small spheres over a mesh. If I "export" the scene to Stand-Alone Octane it works fine, the small spheres are exported as meshes. Is it not possible at this stage to use the same technique with the Octane plug-in?

Sorry if I'm being a bit dense, thanks for your help,

Sandy

You can displace a mesh also over ICE, thats why i ask.

Sure, thats the plan to implement ICE.
It´s not so simple because the structure is a little bit different, but at the end i use the same technique.

Hello,
Just a general thought about Octane for Softimage. I'm currently using it in a project. It's fast and reliable. I'm just tired to change the resolution each time I have to preview render (it's a well known limitation, I hope you will be able to fix it soon ;) ), the second (or even more !) UV support would be also very nice.
Nice work Face !
