I discovered a huge problem with animation, and I think it only happens with deformations, not with SRT animation.
As characters or objects are being deformed, black artifacts occur when new polygons are exposed to the camera.
The following are frames 23 to 25 of an animation (check underneath her chin):
Right after 25 had finished, Softimage updated the viewport from 23 to frame 25.
I then hit "Render Frame," and this is what I got:
So once the viewport was updated, the artifacts were gone. I think what needs to happen is for the plugin to advance the Current Frame in Softimage before exporting the geometry. Right now, my only way of avoiding the artifacts is to render one frame at a time.
I don't have time right now to produce an example scene because I need to finish this animation. But the bug should be very easy to reproduce, it's all over my first 50 frames which rendered over night.
The deformation should expose polygons to the camera that were unseen by the camera at the beginning of the animation. Then the bug will occur.
