Will there ever be support for BiFrost?
If so when might that be?
If not please explain?

Thank you Trev

Might my questions be answered please.
They are genuine.

Of particular interest is the rendering of procedural data
Using Octane's volume material
Arnold's volume material for example has direct connections for BiFrost data

Arnold Volume Channel = voxel_fog_density – from Bifrost Graph
Arnold Emission Channel = voxel_temperature – from Bifrost Graph
Arnold Temperature Channel = voxel_temperature – from Bifrost Graph

Hi 10Polarbears,

Thank you for the post.
Bifrost Aero node has the write VDB where we can export the VDB FX.
We have implemented Standard volume emission modes from Octane 2022 here (viewtopic.php?f=33&t=78783)
also can work with Legacy mode.

cheers
Kind Regards

Thank you for your response

The link wasn't particularly helpful.
I gather from your response that there won't be any direct in BiFrost graph support for Octane as there is for Arnold.

It would appear that all BiFrost data has to be written to disk then reimported to be used.
Looks to be quite the convoluted process.

It would also appear that you aren't understanding the question.
I am not referring to BiFrost Aero but BiFrost graph they aren't the same thing though connected

I am hoping to connect to Octane directly from within BiFrost graph to Octane in the same way Arnold can.
See attached image.

Seems like I am only talking to myself.

I notice in previous forum post back in 2018 that Bifrost integration was the 2nd most important feature on the to do list.
Four years later still waiting.

Looks like it is back to Arnold

Hi 10Polarbears,

Thank you for the updates and sorry for the delays.
Our developer has been investigating Bifrost Graph for a while now.
We will keep the update posted. Until then please export the vdbs as a workaround!

Quoting CG Channel - http://www.cgchannel.com/2022/06/autode ... -maya-2-5/
"
Bifrost for Maya gets a significant update, with the new Operator SDK in Bifrost 2.5 opening up the plugin to C++ development.
"

Might there now be a chance that Octane will support Bifrost in-graph?
Not that my main machine can use it since there remains no support for M1 Macs.

Might there be some plan to make Bifrost to Octane happen?
After all it isn't all about simulation there is mesh as well lots of things where VDB is unnecessary.

There is an opportunity here for visual programming (Bifrost Graph) to be used to extract the full power of Octane in Maya.
The creative possibilities are endless but importantly vastly more accessible to artists.

Otoy won't need to wait for Autodesk to make this happen.

Thank you for sharing this good news 10Polarbears.
We would take a look once the 2.5 is built in the Maya host.
For now, please do not install the independent Bifrost 2.5 installer because it would restrict OFM plugin to load.

cheers
