Saving from an IPR doesn't work for me either.

I have Tiff16 set in the render settings and don't have tonemapped switched on.

I get an 8 bit image if I save out (as Tiff16) from the IPR window.
I get the full 32bit .exr if performing a full render.

Also, as mentioned in other posts, I have to add an Exposure node in photoshop (Gamma 0.454) to bring the washed out image back to look like the render preview.
This may be a photoshop thing.

Octane plugin definitely fills the IPR window buffer with 32-bit image data when rendered with HDR formats set in preferences.
What Maya saves from the IPR window - is not controlled by the plugin, it's internal Maya's processing. I get the same looking properties of files saved from IPR window's "File/Save" menu after Octane IPR and after MentalRay rendering.

oops, I hadn't seen this when i commented in that other thread. hmmm it looks like you were able to save 32 bit fine out of maya. I must have a setting wrong or something?

from my side if you set color management curves apply into it you get 8bit if you select raw is fine is the raw image.

Just checked with RAW and the image is still 8bit.

I just re-read this again and maybe I misunderstood before but are you saying that Maya just doesn't/can't save a 32bit image out of IPR, which is why we're having our problem?

It looks like this.
As I especially checked this - Octane plugin definitely fills in the IPR window buffer with 32-bit image data if HDR format is chosen in general settings. All what goes on further, when you are using Maya's "File/Save" menu item of IPR window - is totally Maya's behaviour, it's nothing to do with plugin's code...

dang, that's a bummer Is there nowhere on the card or hard drive that this image or frame buffer could be accessed outside of maya? I mean, isn't that literally a 32 bit image we're looking at in the IPR viewport? I don't understand how any of this works, so sorry if that's a stupid question

Here's the recipe for 32bit IPR (2.x Octane / Maya)

1 Maya > Render Settings > Common: Imageformat Tiff16
2 Color: Raw
3 Save from IPR window as OpenEXR (*Make sure your save options are set to save RAW)

This saves 32bit images from Maya IPR.
