plug-in script vs official...?

Hi there,

I'm just slightly confused:
It sounds like a Maya plug-in was just recently announced, whereas we've been using the script for a while now.
Is the new plug-in a completely different product that we would need to buy instead of / alongside our Octane license?
Or are these two mentioned items one-and-the-same?

It certainly would exponentially cut down on render times if we didn't have to export each .obj frame separately -- these are averaging longer than the actual renders inside octane themselves (for animations).

Thank you, and I apologize if I'm sounding idiotic here -- just confused! :O

You'll need the standalone Octane and the Maya plugin together.
That is if you have the stand alone already you will need to buy the plugin to accompany it, or if you don't have Octane at all you need to buy both. The combo of Octane and Max plugin is currently discounted.
The script just exports data but the plugin brings tighter integration.

understand the question. as the website doesn't give much information about what is what, and most infos are spread into announcements here in the forum, it might be quite misunderstandable.

my personal wording:
existing exporter plugins: free of charge for licensed customers
new integrated plugins: need an additional license along to the standalone license - each (and for newbies there are combos).

imo this describes it best...
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply
