You should start it from command line in order to get more info about what's wrong.

Look at our Xorg config file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf , you should see if it's enabled or not.

I think you can safely assume you don't have SLI (this anyway requires 2 video cards and this is somethig you would definitly know before purchasing them )

No, Octane only works on NVIDIA GPUs w/ CUDA technology.
