Don't want to seem impatient, but is there any news yet on how Octane performs on a GTX480?

i'm getting approx 2.8 megasamples/sec on the benchmark scene (the one posted in the GTX470 thread)
but this is with a non-optimized kernel so it should be more.
i will make a propper report tomorrow when i'm done optimizing it.

it's fast though, navigation is supersmooth, a pleasure to work with.

Hi,

I have read in "Octane Render 1.021 beta2.1 released with new Demo versions" thread that the new GTX 480 is 2 times faster than GTX2xx architecture. I did a test on my GTX260 216 card and I get 1.96 MegaSamples/sec in OctaneBenchmark (GTX480 4 MegaSamples/sec)
I was expecting 4x more speed. GTX 480 has 480 cores and lots of improvements. Is it a problem with octan optimization? I wait so long so please write something about.

Hi, we're currently getting 4 Megasamples/sec. It's not what nvidia promised, but then again they always emphasized that fermi was to be much faster for double precision calculation which octane does'nt use (for the most part). (if we did it would be much slower anyways)
It's a very different architecture and we're still experimenting with optimizations so it may go up in the next release.
I have an idea that could theoretically make them run at 5 megasamples/sec, but that would more or less be the maximum we could achieve.

Still, these cards are a nice piece of hardware and running octane on them gives a wholy different experience.
