Hi all,

This is Octane X 2020, now with support for the new M1 Pro and M1 Max. We also fixed a number of other smaller issues.

Important notes

  • For this build you must use the latest MacOS12.0, it will not render on MacOS11.
  • Polaris and Intel GPUs are not supported - there were some driver related issues.

Changes since PR11

  • Added support for M1 Pro and M1 Max.
  • Less memory usage on M1.
  • Fixed a menu not refreshing when a workspace window is closed.
  • Fixed incorrect OSL behavior in some situations.
  • Added missing logb() function.
  • Fixed bad pixels in material previews on M1.
  • Fixed SSS pass, which caused a difference in main and denoiser output passes.

will there also be a new version (PR12, 13, etc.) also for Big Sur? Because Monterey is still not really good for productive work. It has quite a problem with a memory leak. I would prefer it if big Sur is still supported by you. Until there is a reasonable version Monterey ready for production.

Currently running Octane X PR12 on Monterey in Cinema4D S24 and having constant errors rendering and using the Node Editor. This was also a problem previously with PR11 and I know there is an issue with AMD Navi GPUs like the Radeon PRO 5700 XT. I was hoping it would be addressed with the latest update. I included my octanelog_report to see if this helps. Unfortunately, I needed to update to the latest OS for other applications. Thanks!

Yes, however building for Big Sur takes a lot longer due to driver/compiler issues. PR13 for MacOS12 is almost finished building - we will then switch focus to MacOS11 again.

Part of the problem is that Octane 2020 (which Octane X PR12 is based on) is aging, and the plugin does not support it very well anymore. We're working with Ahmet on fixing these issues.

There shouldn't be any more issues with Navi GPUs however - if you cannot render (even with standalone) on Navi, please let us know.

We wanted to release PR13 with some additional fixes first - that process is nearly done and should be released this week. However, I think it will take a few extra days for Paul to build the plugin.
