Multiple Card Loading in Octane

Postby p3taoctane » Sat Jun 19, 2010 4:28 am

I have a Cubix Expander box and if I open Octane and go to the menu that enables me to load multiple cards and then import a mesh then all the cards are actively involved in the render. BUT if I open an existing octane file then try and load multiple cards... or export a file from Maya.... I can see the extra cards but I can not add them..

I have tried this many times and the only way to get all the cards is to start from scratch...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Peter

hi,
when opening an existing scene in octane, you have to add your gpu's in the device manager before clicking on any node (otherwise the model is loaded in gpu and you can't add more then).
From your host app, you should have a string in the plugin named 'gpu devices' , thick that box and enter '0 1' without the quotes (if you have two gpu, otherwise 0 1 2 3 etc). If you don't have that option in your plugin, ask your plugin developer for it.

hope that helps ;)

Thanks Amplitude
That makes sense. Yep My plugin does have that.
Appreciate it

is there a way of opening up an *.ocs file in a text editor and changing the device active state?

From what I can see it doesn't flag it, but it would be helpful if it did.

I guess you are talking about 2.2, right? cause in 2.3 you can set the default gpus you want to use in preferences.
Other way to do it, would be to launch octane from a command window and use the "-g X" flag where X is the gpu number, and add as many flags as needed, such as -g 0 -g 1 ..... and so on. To see exactly how to do it check the manual for all the flags.

Hi,

the new beta2.3 stores your gpu settings on your online profile, so you only have to configure it once.

it's system specific not project specific, so we don't store the gpu setup in the OCS project.
