Octane X Standalone works. However, Octane X plugin within Modo gives me this error in the log:

I have OSX Catalina 10.15.6 running on Mac Pro 2019 with AMD Radeon Pro Vega II 32 GB. I've tried Modo 13.0v1, 13.v2, 14.0v1 & 14.0v2 so far.

Any thoughts?

Best

Same thing with AMD Radeon 5700XT.

OK, the day i was waiting for is here, but now, i'm really disappointed,

because i downloaded the standalone and it crashes all the time, then i hoped there are a few CotaneX plug-in demos, but these are still just the CUDA Versions. So i have no chance for further test :-(

My questions:

1.) do you otoy guys bring out demo Versions of the OctaneX(METAL) Plug-ins for several tools soon (in my case Maya and C4d)?
2.) What could causes the crashes of Octane standalone

My Specs:

MacPro 5.1
12 Core Xeon3,46 GHz
96GB RAM
AMD Vega RX56 8GB VRAM
Mac OS 10.15.6

Please could someone advise me?
I’m using a MacBook Pro 2017, razer core x.
Should I purchase the 5700XT or Radeon VII? Also how many graphics cards could I fit into the razer core x?

Thanks in advance!

Super exciting and congratulations on the release!

Got a question.
I was curious and wanted to render the exact same C4D scene on my PC with two RTX 2070 Super and then using my 2019 MBP with a Vega 56 EGPU to see the speed difference.
Very far from a fair comparison since the PC setup got about 439OB and the Vega 56 currently got around 117OB. So the speed difference should be around 4x, probably more now since it's early days.

I rendered and the result of the final images are identical down to the pixel, very impressive.
However, the PC rendered the image in 2:15 and it took the MBP 75:12. So PC was around 33x faster.

Is this due to the PC being much more powerful with more memory and better CPU or is an EGPU solution just that much slower?
Guessing there's a lot of lost performance with EGPUs.

Reading the first post I can tell you the Radeon VII will be slightly faster and it has double the VRAM, but it's double the price. If you can spend the money I'd get the fastest card possible for the eGPU because you are limited to 1 GPU in all eGPU enclosures. Currently that would be the Radeon VII.

Was RTX on and did you have to go out of core on macOS? Those two factors could easily affect speed depending on the scene and kernel settings used.

Don't think I went out of core but RTX was indeed active, that's probably why.
Thanks for the reply and congrats again, really excited to be able to bring Octane on the road.

Am I right in thinking that the Radeon "PRO" VII is a 'Mac Pro' only card?
I can easily find the Radeon VII on amazon etc but not the Radeon Pro VII.

I'm sorry if this has already been covered, I can't track it down. Will it be possible to use multiple eGPUs? I really kinda love the idea of my 13" MBP with 4 Pro VII's attached...
