closed: OctaneRender pre2.3 v5 Demo video mini-competition Tweet

Hi all,

The best entry in this mini competition gets a brand new GeForce GTS 450 1GB card.
We need to show the public visitors what octane 2.3 v5 (coming this week) can do,
and that we delivered on our promise that octanelive is not a DRM technology but actually makes paying customer's lives much more fun and flexible with use of octanerender,
which our now customers know, but the public does'nt yet.

We're currently putting %100 of our resources into getting v5 out (with rough glass, severe speedup, last firefly bugs on glossy fixed, and the black rings around glossy materials fixed)
Therefore, we're doing this mini competition.

You can start preparing with beta 2.3 v4 and then do your video presentation with pre2.3 v5 when it comes out.

What we need:

* 5-10 minutes of 720p (1280x720 resolution), average 7 minutes.
* Narrated in real-time in ENGLISH.
* No composition/post prod. (just a full session with no cuts or stops/starts)
* Only an octane render logo at the start or end of the video is required.
* The youtube video's title should be 'Work in progress: OctaneRender beta 2.3 v5 preview demo - competition entry by <yourname>' for WIPS and for finals: OctaneRender beta 2.3 v5 preview demo - competition entry by <yourname>
* screencaptured at 50 or 60 FPS lossless, encoded to artifact free, good quality and gamma 720p H.265 for upload to youtube
* Make a demo of a complete overview of octanerender 2.3 v5. Going from an activated copy launch, to the new preferences explaining the lock/unlock, new automatically pre-configured preferences, custom controls, etc... also explain these will be stored in octanelive and available when you get home and activate your license after work.
* Show a nice, fast scene with use of the livedb, new features, new material options etc...
* if possible, add a quick from empty macro node to uploaded realistic material in livedb, explaining it's instantly available to everyone else, and then drag it onto an object in your render

* upload your WIPS to the WIP forum.
* upload your FINALS here as youtube links.

* don't paste a link, embed it with the youtube button, eg when making a post, just click on the youtube button above the textediting field, and paste the URL of the youtube page with the video working in between.

When is the deadline ?

The time you have is 10 days as of today (Monday 20 september, CET)
Ending on Thursday 1 October at 20:00 / 8pm CET (Central European Timezone, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris) (all submission finals must be posted, keep your source material too for recompression)

The results will be judged by a panel of 5 independent judges.


We will also, after a winner is chosen, need a few dubbed over narrations of the winning video in: french, spanish, italian and russian.
We will give a prize to the best narration, but we need to think how to judge this as we don't speak some of these languages...


Godspeed as this will save us much time and therefore the 2.3 v6 with our new algorithm will be finished a few days earlier, soon.

just wondering, i wanted to do some research on the card and this is what i only got

So when is the deadline? I'm out of the country and away from my PC till 29 of october, but i assume the deadline is earlier than that.. Which means i won't be able to participate.

I Could try it on a GT320 M, that's what my laptop has, to show that you can even use it on slow laptop gpus with good success.

I'm okay for dubbing in FRENCH.
I studied English for 4 years after the French equivalent for A-Levels, then I lived and worked for 4 years in the UK (in Reading, near London).
(English people say I have quite a "Londonish" accent )
