Render Failure on RTX 3080

No errors, simply "Render Failure" in the debug log:

00:00:02 (0002.23) | ++++++++++++++++++++++
00:00:02 (0002.23) | +++ RENDER FAILURE +++ processing the failure callback
00:00:02 (0002.23) | ++++++++++++++++++++++

I know it has to do with the new graphics card. Official statements indicate that the raytracing-specific hardware of the Ampere cards can't be used on "old" versions of Octane (4 in my case, I don't do near enough work in LW to even attempt to justify a subscription fee for something I already own), but it doesn't say that the entire plugin will become unusable and worthless.

So, is there something on my end I can do to get it working?

Or what are you doing on your end to get it working?

Or is it Otoy's plan to simply abandon users of the "old" software?

Octane 4.0 is no longer supported, so I doubt that if it has problems working in the new 30xx GPUs (probably due to the new drivers needed by these GPUs) we'll release new builds to support them. Be aware that compiling the old Octane 4.0 against the new CUDA libs used by these GPUs is probably impossible and in any case, as you could understand, we can't support all the older Octane versions at the same time.

Thanks,

Well, the new version doesn't work either. No errors. F9 render just hangs at "rendering", log only shows that it's starting the render, but nothing actually happens. IPR throws an error "IPR isn't working, unable to abort" and just sits there.

If you want me to shell out another six hundred bucks for this, it should at least do something.

Octane 2020.1.5 should work with the RTX 30xx GPUs. The only known limitation is the denoiser (a problem that will be fixed in Octane 2020.2). Have you updated the drivers to the latest NVIDIA STUDIO drivers available? Do you know if Octane 2020.1.5 Standalone also has problems in your system?

Thanks,

I just tried the demo plugin for LW, whatever version that's on, looks like 2020.1. I'm on the latest Game Ready drivers.

The latest demo is 2020.1.5.0, you can download it from the forum:

Also, please install the STUDIO Nvidia drivers. It is known that Octane can have problems with the game ready drivers.

Hi,

I installed my 3080 strix this morning, in addition to 2 2080ti.

Octane bench is running perfectly, but now, I can't work with my current file.

I did read about Denoiser problems, so I unchecked it. But now, as soon as the render start in the live viewer, i'm getting this :

Edit : and now that I wrote this message, it's working like a charm... so strange....

Now I hope the denoiser problem is soon to be solved...
