Spotlights not working

Hi all,

I’ve been using Octane for UE4 and Standalone for about 6 months now, and I have not been able to solve this problem. Octane, both in the plugin and in standalone, does not appear to accept UE4 Spotlights as an acceptable light source. Rectangular, Point and Directional lights all work fine, but spotlights just don’t. This occurs with:

- Behind glass
- isolated with nothing blocking it
- within blueprint
- seperate actor
- any intensity, scale, attenuation radius, cone angle and all other ordinary parameters
- movable, stationary or static

Essentially, every conceivable way and configuration of a spotlight simply has no effect in Octane.

Other details:
UE4.25
Across multiple scenes and projects
All other light types work as expected

This is a significant issue for us, and I have not been able to find any resources that shed light on the matter. Excuse the pun. If anyone has recommendations, questions or needs more information, please leave me a comment. I appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks,

Tim

Thanks for replying, but that's not quote the issue. The video is showing how to alter the spotlight to get soft shadows, but the spotlight itself is being recognised as a light. This doesn't happen with mine, it's as if there's no light there at all. Doesn't matter how the spotlight is setup, so far I can tell, it just doesn't show any light whatsoever.

Was there anything you did when you dragged it into your scene?

Thanks,

Tim

Which version of Octane for Unreal are you using?

Ue4.25, octane for UE4 v0.39.

I just checked with v0.41 and spotlights certainly work.
One note though, unlike with unreal, spotlights cannot shine through the back of objects. This means that if your spotlight is inside of a model, it will not work.

Hey Chris,

I am not able to download 0.41, I only have the option of 0.39.

This problem occurs when the spotlight isn't in a model or interfered with, it is across the board. I have tried reinstalling it, and it has not changed. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tim

Here try this version:

Your issue is rather strange, I just tested and it definitely works here.
Would it be possible for you to create a simple empty project with just a scene with a broken spotlight, and then send that scene to me?

Hey Chris,

Sure, just a standard UE4 scene or an exported ORBX? I'll include images of what's happening from my end too.

Thanks,

Tim

Both the scene and the ORBX would be great.
