Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone are here:
OctaneRender Standalone

Important: if using macOS, we strongly recommend that you update to version 13.3. Prior to 13.3, there is an OS related issue that causes a render failure consistently if you render for long periods of time.

Changes since version 22.8:

  • Implemented support of Maya-native light linking UI, to the degree where it is compatible with Octane way to do this. See the usage notes below regarding some specifics and restrictions.
  • Minor fixes and improvements...

NOTE: Directional light in current 2023.1 Standalone is not affected by its parent transform rotation at all. This is why you can only rotate this light in Maya by a transform node connected to this light-node's "Transform" plug. At least for current Octane engine version...

NOTE: Don't forget to use the %p tag where you need the AOV-name to appear in the output path. I've found out that this has not been mentioned in the plugin manual, but it's going to be better described soon...

New "Maya light linking" mode usage notes:
  • First of all, the light linking functionality structure is completely different in Maya and in Octane - so Maya light linking UI will not work fully as expected with Octane in some aspects.
  • If you want to use Maya's light linking UI for Octane light nodes, the "Use Maya light linking UI" checkbox must be enabled in global Octane settings.
  • For "Light centric", Octane lights must be added to the left panel of Maya's light linking UI (e.g. using "Set editing" mode) to make them available for linking.
  • After that, objects can be linked/unlinked to/from Octane light as usual. Keep in mind though that in Octane you link objects not to the light itself but to the Light Pass ID assigned in the emission of that light. So when you "link" some object in Maya's light-linking UI to Octane light - you are actually linking that object to the Light Pass ID of that light node, not to the light node itself! So if other Octane light nodes have the same Light Pass ID bound to them - that automatically will link the object to all Octane light nodes having the same Light Pass ID. If you change the Light Pass ID of a light node after the light-assignment - that will automatically re-assign the linked object(s) to that new Light Pass ID.
  • When the "Use Maya light linking UI" checkbox is enabled in Octane's global settings, the changes in that Maya's UI do not affect the data attributes of Octane objects in Maya: that means the checkboxes of Octane's light linking section in object's AE (other than environment checkboxes, see below about that) have no effect anymore and will remain as set before switching to Maya's light-linking mode. Only environment checkboxes will still have effect and must be still used for environment (see the NOTE below).
Thus if at some point you decide to disable Maya's light-linking UI mode back and continue Octane way - Maya will start using that previously set up data again. Which means you can flexibly have two completely different light-linking sets in one scene just by enabling and disabling Maya's light-linking UI checkbox in Octane's global settings back and forth.
  • NOTE that the Maya's light-linking UI does not show Octane SunSky environment nodes, thus you if you need to setup Octane environment affecting/not-affecting some objects, you can only do this the usual Octane standalone way: setting appropriate checkboxes in object's Attribute Editor UI. Same regarding Octane Kernel nodes.
