OctaneRender 2023.1.2 for Houdini production (2023.1.2.2)

This is a production release of the OctaneRender™ 2023.1.2.2 for Houdini™ plugin compiled with the Octane 2023.1.2 core. This 2023.1.2.2 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.0.720, 19.5.805, 20.0.506, 20.0.547, 20.0.590, 20.0.625.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux only compatibility Houdini 20 build is supported (gcc9.3).
It can only be installed by downloading it from the downloads page since it's not visible in the Launcher:

We are looking into supporting the gcc11.2 build.

Known bugs
On Linux, MPlay IPR may not be working. If you are having problems with it, please switch to QT5 IPR and disable "Render to MPlay" in ROP nodes.

* PLUGIN FEATURES AND FIXES:
- Added Houdini 20.0.625 plugin builds.
- Fixed "The Instance node "setup" is referencing a not available object" error.
- Fixed Packed Geo Instance Crash with Motion Blur.
- Fixed errors while reloading scene in some cases.
- Support custom attributes for Packed geo instancing.
Existing scene needs to recreate Octane ObjParms by "-ObjParms" and "+ObjParms" to have the new Custom Attributes parameter when Packed Geo Instancing is enabled.
Below is an example of the setup of using this Custom Attributes parameter.

Common Issues and Solutions
- If the plugin doesn't work at all, set HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2 in houdini.env and check for messages in the terminal.
- If you're missing libglut.so.3, install the freeglut package.
- If you are having any issues with the Deadline - please submit a support ticket to the AWS.

Custom attributes on instances is a such a welcome feature but custom attributes shouldn't be hidden when Packed Geo Instancing is turned off since it works with other methods of instancing. (e.g. instancepath attribute and instance node)

When using instancepath, instances wont render if Packed Geo Instancing is enabled so turning it on to add custom attributes then turning it off to render is tedious.
It works when using instance node but you have to manually add the object parameters. In this method, it doesn't matter if Packed Geo Instancing is turned on or off.

I have attached a sample file if anyone needs it.

Hey there,

I'm having a problem with the Motion Blur whenever I use texture displacement in my material.
Is this a known bug? Once I delete the displacement texture, Motion Blur works as intended.

Hi are you still having issue with this? It should work in the same way as vector.

Auto bump map in vertex displacement is broken. Works fine with images, doesn't work with noises. Works just fine in standalone.

Thanks for reporting this and giving a sample scene - it is appreciated!
We will investigate, for now you could add a bake to texture node in between the noise and displacement.

Looking now, this seems like it is an issue in Standalone 2023.1 but not 2024.1 alpha with the Noise + projection: XYZ to UVW
Add a UV Mesh Projection onto the Noise node and it will work.
