This is a production release of the OctaneRender™ 2023.1.2.0 for Houdini™ plugin compiled with the Octane 2023.1.2 core. This 2023.1.2.0 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.0.720, 19.5.534, 19.5.569, 19.5.605, 19.5.805, 20.0.506, 20.0.547, 20.0.590.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux only compatibility Houdini 20 build is supported (gcc9.3).
It can only be installed by downloading it from the downloads page since it's not visible in the Launcher:
https://www.sidefx.com/download/daily-b ... ction=true
or direct download link: houdini-20.0.590-linux_x86_64_gcc9.3.tar.gz
We are looking into supporting the gcc11.2 build.

My API CUDA errors are gone for that scene. "Always on top" to off is a welcome change as well. Thanks! :)

- Unconnected nodes are deleted before exporting scene to orbx file

I am a big fan of this, thank you. It would be nice if unused AOV's could be cleaned up too.

One issue I do have. When exporting an orbx file and opening it within Standalone, I don't seem to be able to orbit around an object. It's like the whole scene is off-centre somehow, even a simple cube spins off screen when exported via Houdini. Is there some setting I need to enable?

Hi there,

one request - could you maybe change that LUTs can be used in combination with the "ACES tone mapping" setting? Is this a standalone limitation? I would be useful altogether but especially when you have a hazy scene or lots of bloom, it would be great so you can adjust the contrast.

Cheers

This is currently how standalone works as far as I know, although if you use the ACES via external OCIO config then using "Force Tone mapping" will do exactly what you are looking for.
I will speak to the team about it.

Hi there! yes we are currently looking into ways to better support unused AOVs - the current implementation does not support this.
As for the orbit around object, there is a specific tool in standalone to help with this as far as I know, (Camera Target Picker) but also if you set Target on the camera to 0.0.0 then it should orbit at world center.

Cool, thanks! Yeah, I've used it that way before. Just got used to the "force tone mapping" workflow, because it's so convenient.

Brilliant. I needed an up-vector of 0,1,0 too.

Is there somewhere I could configure these values in Houdini?

I don’t think we expose the up vector controls in Houdini. Is there a specific reason you need it exposed? Are you trying to use Perspective correction?

I'd like to navigate around in Standalone, at the moment models skew off screen when I try to move the camera.

Eg: In Houdini, drop a cube + camera, point the camera at the cube, export to Standalone. Move camera in Standalone and the cube vanishes.
But, if I create a new scene in Standalone, drop in a cube, I can orbit the cube.

Is there any way to default the camera target to zero, with an up vector, for every orbx export?
