Hi! This is the first stable release of OctaneRender™ 3.0 for Houdini™. This 3.00.20.0 build is available for the Houdini 13.0/14.0/15.0/15.5 last production builds for Windows x64, Linux gcc4.8 and OSX 10.10.

This plugin is also compatible with Houdini 15.5 Indie. In this case the plugin will have a 1080p limited resolution while rendering sequence, and the scene export and cloud rendering features disabled.

Of course, this is just the beginning of the v3 development cycle and there is more to come ;)

Licenses
To run 3.00 you need a v3 license. You can still run the 3.00 alpha and beta versions with a v2 license until the end of May. The current plan is that 3.00 alpha and beta versions will stop working on 1st June 2016. If the roll-out of non-beta 3.00 versions for all plugins that had a 3.00 beta version takes longer than expected we will extend this grace period.

With v3 licenses you can still use 1.xx and 2.xx versions of Octane, but v3 licenses cannot be deactivated via the OctaneLive web interface anymore, since they will be deactivated automatically by closing Octane or by signing out an offline authentication.

CUDA requirements
Due to a CUDA compiler bug we had to switch to CUDA 7.5, which means on Windows and Linux you may need to update your NVIDIA graphics driver to a current version which supports at least CUDA 7.5. On Mac OSX you may have to update the CUDA driver for Mac to a current version supporting at least CUDA 7.5.

Known issues and limitations
We noticed that deep pixel rendering crashes the render kernels on Maxwell GPUs (compute model 5.x) if the scene contains volumes. We are still investigating, but it looks like a CUDA compiler bug. If it's a compiler issue, we will try to work around it, but it might take a while until we have found a solution for the issue. Also in the Houdini plugin we have an issue with the LiveDB materials window on OSX, that we are investigating.

Just after this first release, we will continue working in some missing features, like support of particle system using the new Octane sphere primitive, the load/save render states, support (or find a workaround) of custom attributes, etc.

Hey Juanjo,

thanks for this build.
If this is to use with v3 license only and Houdini Plugin losts it beta state, when are we able to obtain the full v3 plugin license?
Or did I get something wrong?

Ok. Yes, I can see here also that there is no option to update the Houdini plugin. I'll send an email to the NZ team to fix it.

I don't think so. You are going to need to upgrade the plugin license.

Anyway remember that at least this week you can use the Octane 3 beta build using the old 2.2 license without problems. The changes from the last beta to the final release are minimal, and only related to the licensing system.
